Haikyu!! 2nd Season
Oshimeter
Synopsis
After all that buildup and grind to reach the Inter-High, Karasuno hit a wall and got knocked out. Now Hinata, Kageyama, and the rest of the team are staring down the question every sports anime lives on: what do you do after you lose? Haikyuu Second Season is 25 episodes of that answer, and it's the reason people call this the best sports anime going. The team gets invited to a training camp in Tokyo where they're basically the weakest squad there, grinding through loss after loss against powerhouses like Fukurodani and Nekoma. What makes this season hit different is watching everyone individually confront what they're bad at. Hinata realizes raw energy isn't enough. Kageyama has to rethink how he connects with his teammates. Even the third-years who've been playing for years find gaps in their game. Production I.G went hard on the animation here: rallies feel genuinely tense, and the volleyball actually looks like volleyball, not just energy blasts dressed up as sports. The soundtrack knows exactly when to kick in and when to stay quiet. If you liked Kuroko's Basketball for the rivalries or Slam Dunk for the heart, this scratches that same itch but with tighter pacing and zero filler across its run. It's a team learning how to lose properly so they can figure out how to win.

This season really reflects the hard work they have put in since the beginning. They have been very consistent, and their progress has been characterised by their focus on the game. The adrenaline during the matches keeps us on the edge of our seats from start to finish. We can't wait to see how it all unfolds.
daichi's entire vibe in this show is just sooo father coded and this episode reminds me why i love him. ennoshita getting his moment is so satisfying. also completely unrelated but every time i see ennoshita i think of ennosaku which is the most random ship ever but trust me it's so peak, give it a look fellas
haikyu continues to give its supporting cast real emotional arcs and this episode is a clear example of that. the internal conflict driving ennoshita here is written with more care than most sports titles give their bench characters. pacing through the match disruption feels earned rather than convenient.
watching the team lose a key player mid-match and having to just KEEP GOING with no time to process it is genuinely stressful in the best way. ennoshita stepping into that role and carrying the weight anyway was the emotional highlight. this show does not let its background characters off easy and thats only one from 193883893298 reasons why haikyu is peak. respect man
the animal metaphors they use to describe the teams and plays are always so incredibly cool! hearing tsukishima try to convince himself that it is just a club so he doesn't get hurt is so sad, but i know his huge growth arc is finally getting closer
it is so incredibly nostalgic rewatching this and seeing how much i have grown alongside them. introducing yachi as the new manager is so cute, and seeing the boys panic over their exams just makes them feel like real high schoolers.
analyzing these episodes for character consistency reveals incredibly strong foundational writing. introducing academic stakes via the upcoming tokyo training camp forces the protagonists to confront realistic, non-athletic obstacles, grounding the narrative effectively.
Rewatching to get myself better at analyzing their characters so I don't mischaracterize them in my fanfiction LMFAOOO. Watching this when I was younger than them, the same age as them, and now much older than them this is so nostalgic. It's only the second episode but I've collected 3 quotes for my twt bio
Wakutani South’s patient defensive play slows the pace of the match. Daichi’s steady receives become essential as long rallies test Karasuno’s concentration and endurance.
Tsukishima initially refuses the Tokyo camp invite, claiming he isn’t passionate about volleyball. The key moment comes when Yamaguchi quietly confronts him about his attitude, hinting that Tsukishima’s indifference might actually hide deeper frustration.
New player takes over captain's role as Daichi got injured. As expected he becomes nervous. But needs to appreciate as he tries to calm down himself during the match. Things are getting intense from here!
Episode 2 is a total mood! Seeing our chaotic duo struggling over upcoming exams is comedy gold. Meeting Yachi is so wholesome-she’s literally us! Karasuno got new club manager🥳
Hilarious when hinata and kageyama realises their academic failure and try to make it up for volleyball
I really liked how fun Saeko was with Hinata and Kageyama this episode. I also loved the quotes, "Absolute pride and confidence of being the ace" and "There are some sights you only see when you take a detour." Both were simple but really memorable. Can't wait for more Bokuto and Akaashi. <3
the emotional resolution for seijoh's characters in this episode got me completely and i am not okay. oikawa is just THE character of all time and i will ship him with literally every single person on that court. perfect arc, perfect ending, oikage, oisuga, oihina, ushioi, iwaoi nation rise absolutely forever
the way tooru talks to koushi is literally why oisuga has lived in my head for ten years and refuses to leave. and the oikawa and kageyama dynamic this episode is my absolute favorite thing this show does. these two on screen together is completely unmatched fr, oikage so peak man
noya's toss is always so satisfying to see and this episode reminded me of that again. also yahaba and maddog should absolutely kiss and i said what i said end of discussion. hinata shoyo remains that guy every single episode. this show makes every character feel like the main character. just peak after peak man
YAMAGUCHI MY BABY. i cannot believe how much i feel every time this boy steps up. tsukishima's words in this episode made me tear up and i was absolutely not prepared for that. this show is impossible to watch without caring deeply about every single person on screen, all of them are my babies
tooru carries every single scene he is in effortlessly and this episode just keeps proving it. but like every captain in haikyu is written so ridiculously well so instead of taking leadership classes people should just watch this show lol. the chills during his moments this ep were completely real
i am genuinely tweaking every single time tooru appears on screen and there is no cure for this and i do NOT want one. that moment when they rallied around him as captain absolutely wrecked me. also oikawa and atsumu being best friends in my head lives rent free forever fr
