Haikyu!! 3rd Season
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Stretched across just ten episodes, one single volleyball match comprises the entire runtime of this season. And somehow it never drags for a second. Haikyuu's third season puts Karasuno, the scrappy underdog team that's clawed its way back from irrelevance, against Shiratorizawa Academy in the Miyagi Prefecture finals. The prize is a ticket to nationals. The problem is Wakatoshi Ushijima, a left-handed ace who hits like a freight train and genuinely believes Karasuno's setter Kageyama made the wrong choice by not attending his school. It's personal in a way that makes every rally feel like it matters. Production I.G went all in on the animation here: the volleyball is kinetic, weighty, and honestly some of the best sports choreography in anime. But what makes it land is that you already care about these characters from the previous seasons, and the show keeps finding new angles on their growth even within a single game. Tsukishima's arc alone is worth the watch. The pacing is tight, the soundtrack knows exactly when to hit, and the tension builds in a way that had me forgetting to breathe during some of the later sets. If you liked the competitive intensity of Kuroko no Basket or the team dynamics in Aoashi, this is that same energy but more grounded. And if Yowamushi Pedal showed you that sports anime can make you emotional about things you've never cared about. yeah, volleyball is next. Watch seasons one and two first, obviously.

Me salvó de un momento difícil. 💕
When he did the jump
Its good to watch
Shirabu's backstory made me realize he isn't just a boring setter but someone who actively chose to serve the strongest player because he finds teamwork inefficient. I love how this episode frames the match as a clash of beliefs between simple power and Karasuno's complicated mess of attacks and that kick-save by Tanaka at the end was just pure grit.
Seeing why the old coach hates small players actually made me feel for him a bit. He was rejected for his height too and now he just wants to prove that raw power matters
Tsukki was becoming an amazing blocker in this whole match
This episode is hyped because of the block, but it also portrays Tsukishima 's inner conflict of his perspective of the sport. Finally, showing he has a passion for the sport instead of just seeing it as a club activity and being emotionally distant from it.
I actually started yelling when that 360 camera shot panned around the court during the last point, and the way the music cut out made my skin crawl in the best way possible
akiteru being the loudest person in the stands while cheering for his brother made that whole tsukishima mvp moment even better and seeing him so proud was just a great touch
The whole eagle versus crows metaphor really clicked when Hinata finally broke through those wings to score. It felt like the entire stadium held its breath for that final set, and seeing Karasuno win after being the underdogs for so long was so satisfying. That shot of the scoreboard flipping to twenty-one, showing them as winners, is going to stay in my head for a long time.
takeda and ukai hugging on the sidelines was so sweet because you can tell how much they cared about these kids making it to the orange court after all that hard work
The way every single Karasuno member contributed to that last, crazy-long rally before Hinata's spike was just incredible, I couldn't tear my eyes away! Seeing that ball finally hit the floor after such an intense back-and-forth made all the tension melt away, and I felt so incredibly proud of them. You could really tell how badly they all wanted it, and it paid off!
tsukishima screaming after that block was the biggest shock of the whole show since he is always acting bored but he really saved the match by shutting down ushijima at the very end
kageyama getting that youth camp invite right at the end was such a cool way to close things out and he looked so confused while everyone else was celebrating his massive jump
