Giant Beasts of Ars
Oshimeter
Synopsis
For decades, giant beasts have threatened humanity, and the people tasked with killing them come in pairs: Paladins, the warriors, and Clerics, walking magical weapons whose powers are too volatile to control on their own. Jiiro is a former Paladin who lost his partner and has no interest in getting back in the fight. Then he meets Kuumi, a young woman who just discovered she's a Cleric, and who's on the run from a shady research facility that very much wants her back. After they form a contract to survive a beast attack, Jiiro reluctantly becomes her protector. Joined by Myaa, a kid in a cat headdress, the three set off across the world of Ars, and what starts as a straightforward chase story gradually pulls back layers to reveal that the real danger might not be the monsters at all. The Paladin-Cleric dynamic is genuinely interesting: it's a symbiotic power system where one person is essentially a living weapon and the other is the trigger, which raises some uncomfortable questions the show is willing to sit with. If you liked the "humanity vs. titans" tension of Attack on Titan or the creature-hunting vibes of Monster Hunter Stories, this 12-episode TV series from 2023 hits similar notes on a smaller scale. It's not reinventing the genre, but the world-building is solid, the conspiracy threads keep things moving, and at 12 episodes it doesn't overstay its welcome.

A memorable season finale, packed with action, plot twists, battles, and 100% excitement, featuring appearances from some familiar characters and a highly entertaining conclusion. Fast-paced and canon within the storyline. An excellent season finale.
A fast-paced episode, full of emotion, with beautiful moments and many difficult decisions, but which ultimately give the anime a very special and emotional touch. It is canon within the story and, being the penultimate episode, it serves as a teaser for the finale.
A frenetic yet balanced episode with plenty of action, battles, unexpected twists, and plot development. We're almost at the end of the anime, but many questions remain unanswered. It's canon within the story and entertaining to watch.
A slow-paced episode with many deep conversations; there isn't much action, but the plot develops quite well. It's canon within the story and entertaining to watch despite the lack of battles. Recommended.
After an incredible flashback featuring Kuumi, we have a fast-paced, action-packed episode full of excitement, battles, and thrilling moments from beginning to end. It's a great way to develop the plot and establish canon within the story. Very well done.
We arrive at a new village in this episode, with an unexpected secret. The chapter has a balanced pace, with very interesting flashbacks about the past that expand the plot and develop the anime, canon within the story, with very sad and emotional moments.
The plot begins to unfold in a fast-paced, canonical chapter within the story, with the full introduction of two powerful adversaries. Everything takes shape, without yet knowing the complete plot, with moments of action and peaks of emotion.
A very exciting episode, full of action and battles, set in a new village. Rosa and the crew discover this new village, which is full of warriors. A fast-paced, canonical episode within the story, with some funny scenes.
A good episode; we closely follow the adventure in the city where the rain never seems to stop, with peaks of action, excitement, stakes, and the occasional steamy moment. Entertaining to watch, with a balanced pace and canon within the story.
And that's a wrap. Talk about one of the anime endings of all time. I genuinely enjoyed the journey and the fun moments along the way, but trying to cram everything into the finale left it feeling rushed and flat. It’s a decent watch as a whole but the wasted potential definitely hurts.
That honestly did not feel like a penultimate episode at all. The tone felt way too casual considering how many massive plot threads are still completely up in the air. Between the village getting attacked, Facade's whole situation, the Council of Myaas's scheme and whatever 'divine retribution' the gods are dropping on us. How are they going to wrap all of this up next week?
The plot is officially kicking into high gear. We knew Kumi's life expectancy was going to become a major issue sooner or later but I really hope they don't actually kill her off.
Come on, they actually put all the Chapeaux together in one scene. Honestly, give the translator a raise because the pun game today was elite. Such a fun episode.
Loved the wholesome moment between Kumi and Dark Kumi but that ending was brutal. Mezami is completely irredeemable at this point and he's got to go.
What an episode! The Jiro and Toka flashback hit heavy but the twists really stole the show. The knight princess connection, Facade's messed-up memories and the impending Kumi specimen hunt. There’s so much cooking right now. This show is officially transitioning from good to great.
That was exactly what the show needed. Massive step up in both the pacing and the visual quality today. Fingers crossed the studio keeps this level of quality consistent for the rest of the episodes.
Wasn't expecting Babban and Jiro to vibe like that. I thought they'd hate each other, but Babban was genuinely thrilled to reunite with a strong and worthy rival.
The writing and characters are holding up great but the animation during the last couple of episodes felt incredibly lazy during the action scenes. Hopefully, it’s just a temporary dip because they're hoarding the budget for the major fights coming up.
Tillie gives off major Cleric vibes but since she’s not in the opening's main lineup. She’s likely just a solid side character. Melan definitely feels like he’s joining the permanent party now though
The antagonist is honestly the best part of the show. He’s not doing evil stuff just to be edgy or pull a Sauron. It’s just business to him. He’s stuck doing awful research because it’s the only way to protect humanity from the beasts, so he treats the soldiers like pure resources. This anime is such a hidden gem this season
