Synopsis
Meet Ranma Saotome: a 16-year-old martial artist who turns into a girl every time he gets splashed with cold water. His dad turns into a panda. They picked up these curses from some springs in China, and honestly that's just the start of their problems. Back in Japan, Ranma learns his father arranged a marriage between him and Akane Tendo, a talented martial artist who openly can't stand guys. Their first meeting goes about as well as you'd expect, especially once Akane walks in on Ranma in girl form and things get... complicated. This 2024 remake from MAPPA takes the classic manga and gives it a fresh coat of paint that somehow feels both modern and warmly nostalgic, with animation that dips into 16-bit video game-style sequences during fights. The gender-swap gimmick could easily be one-note, but it keeps generating genuinely funny situations while also making the slow-burn romance between Ranma and Akane more layered than it has any right to be. Kaoru Wada's soundtrack ties the martial arts action and the comedy together nicely across 12 tight episodes. If you grew up on Urusei Yatsura or Inuyasha, this is from the same creator, Rumiko Takahashi, and carries that same chaotic romantic energy. And if you liked the recent Urusei Yatsura remake, this is the natural next watch: same era of manga, same blend of absurd comedy and genuine heart, better fights.

Ranma Saotome
The second-generation heir to the Saotome School of Anything Goes Martial Arts. During training in China, he accidentally fell into the Jusenkyo’s “Spring of Drowned Girl,” leaving him with a unique curse: whenever splashed with cold water, he transforms into a woman, reverting only with hot water. Bound by an arrangement made by their parents, he is engaged to Akane Tendo. Ranma currently lives at the Tendo household with his father, Genma.

The youngest daughter of the Tendo family and the second-generation heir to the Tendo Dojo. A first-year student at Furinkan High School, she is known for her exceptional physical strength and formidable martial arts skills. Though often at odds with her fiancé, Ranma, she sometimes reveals a softer, more compassionate side beneath her fiery personality.

Ryoga Hibiki
Ranma’s former classmate and long-time rival from his days at an all-boys school. Despite his formidable strength and determination, Ryoga suffers from an extreme lack of direction, often getting hopelessly lost on his way to even the simplest destinations. While pursuing Ranma to China, he fell into Jusenkyo’s “Spring of Drowned Black Piglet,” leaving him with a peculiar curse: whenever splashed with cold water, he transforms into a small black piglet, only returning to human form with hot water.

A young girl from the Chinese Amazon tribe, she is skilled enough to win the village martial arts tournament. After a fateful encounter with Ranma, she follows him to Japan—though her true intentions remain shrouded in mystery.

Our last episode for this season! Every comedy, slapstick and lil' drama made us attached to Ranma and Akane's relationship. It's satisfying to see Akane realizing her feelings without really forcing it. How do you kill yourself though? 😅 I wanna watch Season 2 ASAP!

An awesome 1st episode to start off the reboot of the series. Somehow they managed to make it fresh but at the same time nostalgic. I like the new aesthetic style they are going for, mixing the manga style and at the same time the sticker magazines kind of style where you see white borders around almost every object. Having the most of the og voice actors back definitely tugs onto the nostalgic string too.
Muy entretenido el combate el cual a medida que avanza el capítulo se pone más interesante y realmente admirable todo lo que Ranma hace por Akane para protegerla. Me encanta como los sentimientos entre Ranma y Akane afloran cada vez más. Ësto cada vez se pone más bueno.
La aparición de la pareja dorada es un espectáculo, ¡ya quiero ver la batalla! Me encanta que gracias a esto Ranma y Akane se estén acercando mucho más. Sin duda uno de los personajes más estresante es Azusa.
Realmente es muy interesante ver que Akane sigue recordando a Ranma dentro de si. Ver que Ranma intente todo por que Akane mejore es conmovedor. el final es inesperado. Espero la temporada 2 para seguir con ésta aventura tan intensa.
Realmente la aparición de Shampoo causa un revuelo total, la rivalidad entre ella y Akane se ha intensificado, esto hace que todo el ambiente sea más tenso. Ranma realmente no sabe poner límites con Shampoo.
Realmente es una batalla épica en la pista de hielo entre Ranma, Ryoga, Sanzenin y Asusa mientras tratan de no caer al agua. la aparición de la Shampoo es muy inesperada, ya que cambia todo el ambiente del capítulo y hace que todo se vuelva aún más interesante y divertido.
NAN-?! OMG my girl Akane, stop denying your feelings. 😂 But boy, Shampoo's really gorgeous. Yet again, it's P-chan that brought all of the fighting. I know most of the scenes are comedy, but I'm so invested I worried about Akane too! Akaneeeeee 😭
I like it that they made the Martial Skating two parts! This part is more slapstick-ish and also just true pure chaos. How they won the cup is a hilarious. 😂 Also another new character, an Amazon; she's such a beauty but fierce! Aiyaaaaa what's with kisses and this anime 😂
Can I just say the intro changing per episodes is super nice? Kudos to the studio, it's a labor of love. ♥️ So, Charlotte Cup: it's chaos! The comedy's out of the box, as usual and gold. So much spinning lol! Looks like someone's overprotective~ I'm loving this development!
Gymnastics and now skating? I love that the plot explores sports. What's next? I'm excited to find out especially when I'm seeing MORE development on Akane and Ranma's relationship. I swear once you get to this point you'd be more invested in how they'll become closer. 👀
How did they fit gymnastics and martial arts perfectly? That's so fun. 😂 Kodachi's tricks are so hilarious and the audience enthusiasm is the best. As always, the comedy is gold and ridiculous. I had so much fun 😂
The fights here involve my boyfriend, so of course it leans full shonen.MAPPA absolutely nailed these scenes, the execution is insanely good. Still, I feel like in the original, Ryoga’s frustration hit much harderbut the humor lands perfectly. I really loved it.
This episode was so chaotic and dynamic. Ranma fights in female form against the Black Rose and once again proves she’s a skilled fighter who can overcome any challenge, even when her opponent cheats. Fun episode!
It's interesting to see Martial Arts + Gymnastics in an anime. Also, the shoujo elements that the new character has is so funny and elegant at the same time. Really excited to see what's gonna happen on the gymnastic tournament!
Ohh so this episode is kind of a breather for the fighting and all but nonetheless, still good flow. Now we know why Ryoga is so pissed - aside from being "stood up" 😂 Is it jealousy though? Ahh I have the same questions, Akane.
Mappa's fighting scenes here are amazing! If not for the light colors, I would think this is from a serious shounen manga. Ryoga's a comic character as well 😂 Anyway, the ending part shocked me lol my jaw dropped. Ranma's bit insensitive there though...
Wait, there's a love triangle? But despite of this reveal, I love that there ARE developments on Ranma's and Akane's dynamics. This episode has it's funny and fluffy moments. It's also noticeable that the art gets heck real good when it matters. Onto Ep 4!
