Before diving deep into this post, Kamui: He's Behind You is truly a unique anime, so unlike my other posts, I will make a bold statement first: this isn't an anime that suits everyone! Please keep that in mind, as for some of you, Kamui: He's Behind You might feel a bit gross, and for those who aren't adults yet, please avoid this show!
Now that I've gotten that warning out of the way, let me share a bit of the plot, you're probably wondering why I said this anime isn't for everyone. Similar to most gag series, Kamui: He's Behind You follows a very simple premise: our main character, Mimizuka Shizuka, is an ordinary high school girl who can see ghosts, and she currently works as an assistant to an eccentric, powerful psychic named Kamui.

Just based on the plot alone, it sounds completely normal, definitely nothing a kid needs to avoid. The part I need everyone to be extremely careful about isn't the plot itself, but the exorcism methods. While Kamui boasts immense spiritual power and top-notch abilities, his methods for dealing with and exorcising ghosts are completely bizarre, unpredictable, and unconventional.
You might be wondering what I'm talking about, so to put it simply: Kamui performs exorcisms through all kinds of adult-oriented and suggestive antics. It sounds hard to believe, but having watched all the episodes, almost every single one shows off his unique exorcism methods that will definitely blow your mind. Now that you understand, please allow me to say it once more, this isn't an anime that suits everyone, and kids should definitely stay away! But if you're an adult and okay with this kind of humor, Kamui: He's Behind You is a gag anime that will give you a fantastic viewing experience.

Sugita Tomokazu and Kamui - The biggest reason to give this anime a try
Just like most great gag series, there are a few reasons why I think Kamui: He's Behind You is such an interesting anime. But among all of them, the biggest reason, and the one thing that really caught my attention, is Kamui's voice actor, Sugita Tomokazu. If you're someone who watches a lot of anime like I do, his name is definitely one you're already familiar with.
Sugita Tomokazu is definitely well-known, you could even call him a legendary voice actor. His work includes Charlotte Katakuri from One Piece, Escanor from The Seven Deadly Sins, Sakamoto from Sakamoto Days, Gyomei Himejima from Demon Slayer, and most importantly, Sakata Gintoki from the Gintama series.

When I first checked the info page for Kamui: He's Behind You, I was genuinely shocked to see that Sugita Tomokazu took on the role of Kamui. As a fan of Sugita, that was honestly the main reason I gave it a shot, since I absolutely love his comedic roles! Once I gave it a try, both Sugita and Kamui had me laughing throughout the entire series, it was definitely a fantastic viewing experience!
From an iconic character like Sakata Gintoki, we already know Sugita is a perfect fit for all kinds of comedic roles, and he always nails them! Even though there are a lot of weird and unique exorcisms in Kamui: He's Behind You, Sugita's acting skills truly lift this anime to a whole new level. If you love gag anime and Sugita Tomokazu, you definitely need to give it a try!

A unique exorcism anime — Who should give Kamui: He's Behind You a try?
As a fan of gag anime and Sugita Tomokazu, Kamui: He's Behind You was a really interesting show that gave me a truly unique viewing experience, though it's definitely not a title for everyone. You might think this is an outright "hentai" series, but it actually isn't. If it were a full-on adult title, they wouldn't have cast Sugita Tomokazu in the first place!
Kamui: He's Behind You isn't a hentai series, it's a Seinen title, not Shonen! You might be surprised, but in the world of Seinen, these types of shows are actually pretty common. It's quite similar to famous series like Tawawa on Monday or Why the Hell Are You Here, Teacher!?. While they aren't classified as full-on adult hentai, this kind of gray area content is completely allowed.

First, as I mentioned before, if you are someone who loves gag and Sugita Tomokazu, you should give it a try. If you are someone who enjoyed Tawawa on Monday or Why the Hell Are You Here, Teacher!?, you should give it a try too.
Plus, if you prefer short-form anime or don't have much time to spare, you might be surprised to learn that this title actually suits you perfectly. Each episode of Kamui: He's Behind You is only about 12 minutes long, much shorter than standard anime. Since the show is genuinely hilarious beyond just its unique exorcism premise, it's the perfect pick if you're looking for a quick watch!
