Reiwa no Dara-san
Oshimeter
Synopsis
A landslide sends two kids tumbling into a forbidden mountain forest, where they come face-to-face with a half-snake, half-shrine-maiden deity who's supposed to be terrifying. Except she's mostly just annoyed that they aren't scared of her. That's Reiwa no Dara-san in a nutshell. Hinata and Kaoru Misogiya are siblings living in a secluded mountain town where everyone knows to stay away from the western mountains — home of the Yamatagi Madara, a legendary serpentine entity that once terrorized the locals. Naturally, the kids ignore every warning and stumble right into Dara-san's domain. She's got the whole grotesque god-of-misfortune thing going on and clearly expects people to run screaming, but these two just... don't. What follows is a comedy about an ancient supernatural being who can't catch a break and two fearless kids who keep showing up uninvited. The vibe is folkloric horror that immediately undercuts itself with genuine warmth and deadpan humor. Character designs come from Koichi Kikuta, who worked on KonoSuba, so there's a playfulness baked into the visual style even when things get creepy. If you liked the gentle supernatural encounters in Natsume's Book of Friends or the god-meets-human dynamic in Kamisama Kiss, this hits a similar sweet spot — just with more snake body and more attitude. Noragami fans will probably dig the tone too. It's cozy, it's weird, and Dara-san herself is the kind of character you root for immediately.
