Synopsis
The internet is absolutely drowning in creepypastas and urban legends — stories everyone shares but nobody actually believes. Fushigi Chino believes them — because he's seen what happens when they turn out to be real. This kid in a red hood wanders from town to town across Japan, showing up wherever something strange is happening, investigating supernatural incidents that most people write off as hoaxes or pranks. He's not alone, either. His companion is Jimmy, a former photographer who got turned into a dog with a human face, which is exactly as unsettling as it sounds. Together they're tracking down Fushigi's twin sister, Himitsu, who has the dangerous ability to actually bring the supernatural into existence. Each episode digs into a different urban legend or eerie occurrence, and the show takes its time building atmosphere rather than rushing to the scares. The vibe sits somewhere between Mushishi's quiet, wandering investigation format and Ghost Hunt's more direct confrontations with the paranormal, but filtered through modern internet horror culture — think cursed videos, cryptid sightings, and unsolved disappearances that started as forum posts. If you liked Mononoke's layered approach to supernatural storytelling, this hits a similar nerve. It's tagged as a kids' demographic, but the tone leans genuinely dark and mysterious, so don't expect it to pull its punches just because of that label. Based on a novel, airing as a TV series in 2026.
