Oshimeter
Synopsis
Floating down the Seine River is a coffin bearing the word 'Psalms' written in blood, carrying the body of Lia de Beaumont, spy for King Louis XV and sister of newly knighted French nobleman D'Eon de Beaumont. That's how this show opens, and it only gets stranger from there. D'Eon joins the king's secret police to find out who killed her, and the investigation pulls him deeper into a web of political conspiracy and genuine supernatural darkness lurking beneath the glittering surface of 18th-century Paris. His companions, a young royal page, a weathered colleague of his sister, and his old fencing master, each bring their own weight to the story, making this feel less like a solo revenge mission and more like a slow-burn ensemble mystery. The historical setting is treated seriously, which makes the supernatural elements hit harder when they creep in. If you liked the ornate decadence and political intrigue of Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo, this scratches a similar itch. Fans of The Rose of Versailles who want something darker and stranger will find a lot to appreciate here. Production I.G. gives everything a moody, period-appropriate atmosphere, think candlelit corridors and court politics gone very, very wrong. It's a quiet 24-episode series that rewards patience, not one that grabs you by the collar, but the mystery genuinely builds into something worth following.

nanival_00★★★★★VerifiedEP 24An epic finale, this episode is pure art. The absolute truth has come to light, changing everything. For France to be reborn, someone had to fall. We won, but at a great cost; D'Eon's path was everything here.
nanival_00★★★★★VerifiedEP 23The King shows his true colors. Royalty has proven to be darker than imagined, built on secrets and lies that only Lia and Maximilien uncovered. Honor, loyalty, and duty have stifled every romance. It hurts, but the story's relentless twists make the impact even stronger.
nanival_00★★★★★VerifiedEP 22Justice is being administered in brutal ways as we reach the peak of the chaos. Poor Belle, that skull, remains one of the darkest figures, alongside the Poets, Saint-Germain, and the King all pushed to their limits. Awesome.
nanival_00★★★★★EP 21What a surprise! Someone so close could betray them, and a former traitor stepped in to help. It’s absolute madness, yet the dark essence of the characters' ideals, all for a just nation remains the driving force in every scene.
nanival_00★★★★★VerifiedEP 20Durand left a huge impact. in all his way. Things have calmed down at the palace, and they can finally return to French soil. The story’s harshness has been constant, but the central mystery remains afloat, with Lia’s new memories haunting her.
nanival_00★★★★★VerifiedEP 19That hurt. The Psalms are recovered, but at what cost? Everything is falling apart. The story is masterfully built, it doesn't draw clear lines between good and evil, as everyone has their reasons, but this honor is stained by those giving the orders.
nanival_00★★★★★VerifiedEP 18Nothing is as it seems. The emotional rollercoaster is real, and poor Lia is feeling it firsthand, her destiny is tragic. The Poets' influence, the control marks, and the question of leadership are chaotic. Cagliostro and Lorenza are everywhere and nowhere, I love them.
nanival_00★★★★★VerifiedEP 17The Poets are taking center stage, and Maximilien continues to follow his own dangerous ideals. Meanwhile, D'Eon, Robin, and Teillagory have just one chance to prove their innocence while on English soil. The pressure is mounting!
nanival_00★★★★★VerifiedEP 16Everything is getting even more shocking. The way the Psalms are being weaponized is terrifying, and the political tug-of-war in France is intensifying. With the King hidden away and Durand proving to be a tough nut to crack, the stakes couldn't be higher.
nanival_00★★★★★VerifiedEP 15I have such mixed feelings, loyalty, friendship, and duty all clashing. What a shocking ending! Is this the price of being part of the King’s secret? I’m truly baffled by Maximilien’s underlying motivations. Things are getting darker.
