Yamaguchi coming in and nailing those serves to tie the score was incredible to see. Watching him grow into a reliable pinch server is such a huge win for the team

I really screamed when Tsukishima showed up at the end with his hand all taped up. He finally cares about the game and it makes me so happy to see him running back to the court

I felt so much stress during that whole deuce and seeing Karasuno scramble for every single ball made the tension almost too much to handle. Ushijima looking at Hinata as a personal obstacle instead of just a random kid shows how much respect he has actually earned. That flashback for the old coach also explains so much about why he hates their style

Saeko Tanaka leading the cheering section to drown out the Shiratorizawa crowd was such a power move. The atmosphere shifted the second she started yelling and it gave the boys the energy they needed to keep fighting

Hinata taking that ball to the face just to stay in the game was everything. It is so good to see him getting under the skin of the stoic ace

Ushijima calling Hinata annoying is the biggest compliment he could ever give, especially after how much he looked down on him at the start of the match.

Kageyama doing pushups on the sideline because he was so desperate to get back into the match was such a great scene and you could see how focused he was when he finally swapped in

The deuce is terrifying and you can see the sweat on everyone as they keep diving for those impossible balls from Ushijima

I screamed when Yamaguchi walked up for that serve because seeing him tie the score after being so nervous in season one makes me so proud of how far my boy has come

My breath caught when I saw Tsukishima running back with his hand all bandaged up and I can just feel how much he wants to stop Ushijima now

That synchronized attack with four players charging the net looked so smooth and Sugawara really kept the team together while Kageyama was getting his head right

The way they showed Washijo's backstory really changed things. You see him as a bitter old guy but then you realize he's just projecting his own past failures onto Hinata because he couldn't handle not being tall. It makes the match feel like a war between two different ways of playing and it's so much deeper now.

Hinata taking that hit to the face just to stay in the game is the most Hinata thing ever and I love that he did it on purpose so he wouldn't get a nosebleed

Saeko standing on that railing and screaming her head off to drown out the Shiratorizawa fans was exactly what the team needed to get their spirit back

I am literally crying because hearing Coach Ukai say that you should always look up knowing the voice actor passed away just broke me into pieces and it felt so heavy and real

Hinata, man, when he took that ball right to the face just to keep it in play, I was genuinely shocked. It really made me think about how far he's willing to go, almost like his pure drive to win turns him into this unstoppable force on the court.

My jaw dropped when I saw young Coach Washijo as a short player, and suddenly his intense focus on height clicked into place for me. It's wild to think his harshness towards Hinata probably stems from his own past regrets, watching someone else succeed where he faced so many struggles.

I can't believe Hinata used his face for that receive just so he wouldn't get subbed out for a nosebleed and that kid is actually insane and Ushijima looking so bothered by him made my day

I was literally holding my breath the whole time Yamaguchi was serving because every point felt like it could be the end for Karasuno and then seeing Tsukishima finally walk back into the gym with his hand all wrapped up made me want to scream with joy and this match is so exhausting to watch but I love how much they want it and how they refuse to give up

When Coach Ukai yelled at them not to look down, it hit so much harder knowing it was the voice actor's final line. That line really captured the desperation of that final set.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming off episode 7's crucial shakeup where Sugawara subbed in for a spent Kageyama, this episode plunges deeper into the fifth set with both squads running on fumes and sheer determination. As the penultimate stretch before the final two episodes, it functions as the last major escalation—raising the emotional and competitive stakes to their absolute peak. Everything here feeds directly into 'The Volleyball Idiots,' where this grueling Karasuno-Shiratorizawa battle reaches its conclusion.
