BLACK TORCH HAS NO VOTE THIS WEEK
Synopsis
At just seventeen, Jirou Azuma is already a trained member of a shinobi clan with the rare ability to talk to animals. That's already a pretty specific setup, but it gets wilder: he rescues a black cat that turns out to be a mononoke, a demonic spirit named Ragou, and the two end up bound together in a way that gives Jirou dangerous new powers he barely understands. From there, he gets pulled into a shadow war between humans and demons that his ninja training only halfway prepared him for. The manga this is based on ran in Shonen Jump and had this tight, no-filler energy: it told its story and didn't drag things out. The dynamic between Jirou and Ragou is the core appeal here. Think of it like a grittier, more compact version of the human-demon symbiosis you get in Jujutsu Kaisen, or if Naruto's jinchuuriki concept got stripped down to its rawest form without 200 episodes of side quests. There's also a Bleach-era vibe to the whole thing: kid discovers a hidden supernatural world, gains power, fights escalating threats, but filtered through a shinobi lens that keeps the combat grounded and sharp. Studio 100studio is handling the adaptation for 2026, so production details are still light. But if you're into action-packed shounen with a supernatural edge and a protagonist who's more scrappy fighter than chosen one, this is one to keep on your radar.

That ending hit me in a way I was not expecting. Grandfather just sitting there praying with his hands together asking why his grandson always has to suffer. I lost my grandfather two years ago and that scene brought it all back. The old man surviving while worrying for younger blood is such a primal pain this show nailed in like forty seconds
The mushroom poisoning gag saving Jiro's life twice in one episode is pure comedy. He literally unlocked the power of equality with Rago and then face-planted into the lake because of bad food. Also Amagi eating Fana's heart on screen felt way more brutal than I expected for this show
I keep hearing people call this Bleach-lite and honestly this episode made me understand why people say that. Jiro unlocking his mask form with the black aura face after screaming about borrowed power is like Ichigo's hollow mask all over again. Its fun and the animation is clean but can we admit the bones of this story are borrowed
Two episodes left and we just introduced the main mentor figure and her husband. Plus Ryoga's portal got sealed which is clearly a trap. This pacing is insane but at the same time I respect no filler. We went from training montage to full villain setup in one episode. The trippy forest visuals carried hard too
Amagi stopping Koga's giant axe blade with one finger wrapped in aura while casually drinking that girl's energy was cold. And then Rei offering himself as a hostage to bait Jiro? That's actually smart and I hate that I respect the play. Amagi smiling at the weakness of it all made my skin crawl
I do not trust the old man at all. That prayer scene at the end with him asking Fukami why Jiro always suffers felt way too ominous. Something is off and I can't put my finger on it. Also Shiba being all relaxed like nothing bad is coming. You guys this is a set up
Ibuki went from funny snake gag to absolute menace of a character design real quick. And I'm not mad about it one bit. The 'power couple' thing with Monjumaru who used to be a ninja is actually hilarious when you think about it. Also Jiro threatening to eat her earlier aged like milk
The mental realm scene where the snake forced Jiro to admit what Rago actually means to him got me. He realizes Rago isn't a weapon or a monster to hate but a friend he respects. That hand reaching out to touch the aura as equals instead of trying to master it was the whole theme of the show in one visual
They really just killed Naruko like that. One scene and she's impaled and eaten. I get that Amagi needed to become a real threat but that felt cheap. Her design had so much potential and they threw it away for shock value. Manga readers said this plotline was rushed and now I see it
That berserk form was genuinely unsettling. The way Jiro's aura just kept swelling until his grandfather had to step in and knock him down felt like watching an actual disaster happening. The grandfather being some elite Bureau guy nobody mentioned changes everything about this show.
Grandpa Azuma absolutely carried this episode. The way he just sidestepped Jiro's feral swings and dropped him with one clean hit to the chest — that's what a real shinobi looks like. Also the moment he told Jiro that no one can do everything alone actually got me a little emotional
I'm worried they're rushing it. The Jiro and Rago separation should hit way harder than it did but they raced through it so fast I barely felt anything. The manga gave that bond room to breathe
That new fused design is legit terrifying. Rago's energy just leaking out of every pore of Jiro's body with those glowing eyes. I need to see what a controlled version of that form looks like in the finale because if that goes clean it's over for everyone
Roren confessing to Ichika with a whole flower field then immediately rejecting her flirting was the funniest whiplash this show has given me. And her slamming the table and pulling a blade on him. Never change Ichika
I get why people love the messy rampage animation but I could barely follow what was happening on screen half the time. The distorted look was cool for setting the mood but I was squinting trying to figure out who was fighting who
The moment Jiro's fist stopped mid-swing when his grandfather showed up. Even with Rago's power drowning out everything else that instinct still kicked in. That one frame told me more about his training than any flashback could
Grandpa shattering Jiro's aura with one clean hit to the chest. That's what raw martial arts mastery looks like. All that monstrous power and decades of training still wins. I wish more shonen showed technique beating raw strength like that
Took so long to finally reach a battle with another actual enemy only for it to end fast and move on to... Check notes* MORE FUCKING FIGHTING AMONG OURSELFS AS TRAINING OR WHATEVER. Like bro you can't make this shit up.
Éste capítulo me gustó un poco más. El ataque sicológico está un poco más interesante.
Buen capítulo, la animación está bien, pero muy genérico, hasta el momento no me ha impresionado con nada nuevo.
