Episode Context

Episode 3 marks the shift from setup into active, character-driven conflict. The tone is tense and combative, with a brisk supernatural ambush sequence testing Jirou and Ragou under real field pressure. Ichika Kishimojin anchors the episode's emotional undercurrent, her distrust of mononoke carrying genuine weight against the action. Themes of duty, prejudice, and professional friction take center stage over broader world-building, keeping the focus tight and personal. The pacing moves quickly through the combat-heavy first half before slowing to let character dynamics breathe. The latter stretch introduces volatile new Bureau personalities who challenge Jirou's footing in the group, adding a more unpredictable, playful edge. Fans who value clashing personalities and grounded supernatural action over lore dumps will find this episode a strong mid-entry.
