EPISODE REVIEWS

Episode Context

A confident series opener that wastes no time establishing its identity. Black Torch blends classic shonen action with supernatural intrigue, rooting itself in a world where ninja heritage and otherworldly forces collide. The tone is energetic but grounded, using Jiro Azuma's unusual ability to communicate with animals as an accessible entry point into something far stranger. Pacing is brisk without feeling rushed, there's enough breathing room to get a read on Jiro's personality and his relationship with the traditions he was raised in. Fans of supernatural action with a folklore-driven edge will find the atmosphere immediately familiar yet distinct. This is an episode built to hook you, and it largely delivers on that promise.
