Apple Newton vs Loli Hitler: Why Petals of Reincarnation is Blowing Everyone's Minds

From Newton to Hitler, Petals of Reincarnation brings history’s greatest geniuses and sinners back to life. Is it a masterpiece or just pure shock value? We break down the animation, the controversy, and that insane Newton fight.
There are a lot of great anime releasing this 2026 Spring Season, we have strong returning titles like One Piece, Dr. Stone, Re:Zero, Reincarnated as a Slime, and more. We also have a few great original titles, such as Nippon Sangoku, Daemons of the Shadow Realm, Witch Hat Atelier, and more. These titles are great, and I personally enjoyed them a lot, but I do feel like a lot of people are sleeping on one title: Petals of Reincarnation.
Petals of Reincarnation — I believe a lot of people haven't heard of this title before. Compared to top-tier anime, Petals of Reincarnation might be considered a weaker title, but it has something unique that you really can't find in any other anime: the Loli Hitler. In Petals of Reincarnation, there is a loli whose name is Adolf Hitler.
Yes, you didn't hear it wrong — in Petals of Reincarnation, there is a loli Hitler. While this may sound hard to believe, this is exactly what makes Petals of Reincarnation so unique and stand out among the Spring 2026 anime. I understand we tend to focus on the stronger titles, but please trust me, Petals of Reincarnation has something that will amaze you, and you will really get drawn into the story.
I feel that Petals of Reincarnation is a hidden gem you shouldn't sleep on, so in this post I'll share a little about it and hope that everyone will give this anime a try. I understand what everyone might be worried about. Although Petals of Reincarnation is an adaptation, I want to ensure everyone gets the best experience possible — so this post will contain no manga spoilers. However, since this post will focus on some characters, it does contain episodic content. If you want to avoid all spoilers, please stop scrolling and leave now!

The Unique Settings of Petals of Reincarnation - Past life and Talent
Besides the Loli Hitler, Petals of Reincarnation also features an Apple Newton, a monstrous Xiang Yu, and other characters with unprecedented designs. If you are quite familiar with the names of famous historical figures, Petals of Reincarnation is a title that suits you very well — it features a lot of real famous figures reimagined in this world, and they will have some truly amazing fights throughout the anime.
Petals of Reincarnation is set in a world where people are able to awaken talents and obtain a kind of superpower from historical figures. These talents are deeply tied to one's own reincarnation, which aligns with the title's name — Reincarnation. To put it simply, if you were Xiang Yu in your past life, you are able to awaken his talent in your current life. Conversely, if your past life was Hitler, you will inherit Hitler's talent.
Just like in any other shonen anime, after obtaining a superpower or ability — think Devil Fruits, Chakra, or magic — how you use it depends on your own imagination. If you have a great imagination and combine it with your talent, you are able to unleash your full potential and achieve amazing effects, just like Hitler.
In the world of Petals of Reincarnation, Hitler is able to understand the innermost thoughts of anyone she makes eye contact with. Furthermore, she can share the vision and hearing of any living creature that comes into contact with the "Hakenkreuz" (swastika). When you break it down into words, it doesn't sound all that powerful, but with the imagination of the character behind it, Hitler is able to accurately predict everyone's actions and thoughts, and act like an absolute ruler on the battlefield.

The Unique Story of Petals of Reincarnation — How Should We Use Our Talent?
In the world of Petals of Reincarnation, even if you are born without any talent, if you have a certain mysterious item — I don't want to spoil too much here, so I'll leave it at that — you can unlock talents easily. It is a very useful and powerful item, as it gives everyone the chance to become a superhuman. However, whether you become a "hero" or a "villain" depends on your past life.
In this world, past life characters are divided into two groups: hero returners and criminal returners. Since you can't change your past, once you use that item, you will immediately become that character and act like them once more. If you unlock Isaac Newton or Albert Einstein, you will be able to become them and act as a hero again — conversely, if you unlock Hitler, you will become a criminal once more.
If your past life was that of a hero, you will be a hero, if your past life was that of a criminal, you will be a criminal. While this may be a bold statement, most characters do tend to act accordingly once they awaken and become the figure of their past life. Since there are no real rules governing how the talent is used after it is unlocked, it naturally comes down to the individual, and so those who have unlocked it tend to fall into two groups.
One group uses their talents for the good of humanity, working hard to protect people — while the other simply uses their talents for fun, even if it means destroying the world all over again. They will do it without a second thought. Unlocking talents is no easy feat these days, and personally, I don't think there is a right or wrong way to use it — but eventually, these two groups cross paths and clash with each other, and that conflict becomes the main story of Petals of Reincarnation.

The Impressive Battles Between Two Forces — What Will Happen When Talents Clash?
To be honest, while the setting of this anime is quite unique, the main plot itself isn't all that impressive, and the conflicts between characters aren't particularly strong. Up until the latest episode, the characters are basically just fighting over how to use their talents, which doesn't feel all that engaging — but once Xiang Yu (also known as Kouu) declares war on the team that the main character, Senji Touya, belongs to, the anime starts to become very interesting.
While the plot itself isn't all that strong, the battles in Petals of Reincarnation are quite good. The production team has done a wonderful job bringing the battles to life, with amazing effects, smooth movements, and truly impressive execution overall. Since I don't want to spoil too much, please just trust me on this, once Xiang Yu enters the battlefield, the whole anime becomes really something.
Although it may sound hard to believe, when talents clash, the one who loses will die. In this world, specifically in the current war that Senji Touya is part of, everyone is staking their lives on it. While in the beginning Touya's teammates thought they could win easily, it turns out that Xiang Yu had prepared something for them.
To be honest, when I first watched Petals of Reincarnation, I did find the first few episodes quite boring, as the conflicts between characters weren't all that unique. But once Xiang Yu appears and brings pure terror and evil into the story, things become far more interesting than the beginning. Although the historical Xiang Yu isn't really considered a "villain," this version of Xiang Yu truly spices things up in all the right ways, ultimately making the story far more compelling.

The Upcoming Journey of Senji Touya — What Are the Upcoming Stories for Petals of Reincarnation?
The story of Petals of Reincarnation doesn't just focus on talent battles, but also on the personal journey of Senji Touya. Having been constantly compared to his brother by the adults around him for so long, the current Touya is deeply troubled and utterly obsessed with the idea of talent. He wants it, he craves it, to the point where even after obtaining it, he still isn't satisfied, and is now plotting to steal the talents of others.
Touya has actually reached a very dangerous point, even with talent in hand, he is never satisfied, and keeps craving more. In his current state, he is very susceptible to manipulation, or worse, he may stray down the wrong path in pursuit of even more talent, all in the name of surpassing his own brother.
Sooner or later, the war between these two forces will come to an end in the upcoming episodes. While Xiang Yu is incredibly strong and looks really cool as a pure villain, Touya’s side hasn’t shown its full power yet, so it’s hard to predict who will win this war. The outcome is still uncertain, but I think the story will shift its focus to Touya after the war ends.
If Xiang Yu were to meet Touya, I think he would be very interested in him. Touya has a darkness within him — the current Touya is solely fixated on talent, and in that state, he is very susceptible to being controlled, or even swayed into joining Xiang Yu toward a far more terrible future. I can understand Touya's feelings and feel for him given what he has been through in his past, but right now, his current state is just too dangerous.

Conclusion
No anime is perfect — every anime has its flaws. Although the beginning of the story isn't all that engaging, the current episodes of Petals of Reincarnation are where things really pick up. Since this anime does contain a lot of complex terminology, it naturally takes some time to establish and explain these concepts, which ultimately leads to those slower early episodes.
But once the necessary explanations are out of the way and Xiang Yu makes his entrance, the story really picks up and becomes something worth watching. For those who have been sleeping on this anime, trust me — Petals of Reincarnation is truly worth your time, and everyone should give it a dive.
