Gintama Season 4

The Day the Laughter Died

The Shogun Assassination Arc is a masterclass in subverting expectations. For over 300 episodes, the Shogun (Shigeshige) was the ultimate "punchline"—a character routinely stripped of his dignity for the sake of comedy. In this arc, Hideaki Sorachi (the author) forces us to reckon with his humanity, his burden, and his nobility.

Rooster Fighter

Still funny, but the novelty is starting

The novelty of the "chicken vs. monster" trope is beginning to wear thin because the stakes and the resolution follow the exact same beat as the previous chapters. While the action is punchy, the lack of real character progression for Keisuke makes this episode feel more like a "monster-of-the-week" filler than a step forward. It’s still an entertaining watch for the sheer absurdity of it all, but it needs to break its own cycle soon if it wants to be more than just a one-trick pony.

Marriagetoxin

Flashy Visuals, Thin Plot?

The first episode is definitely a bit of a mixed bag. While the animation is flashy, the plot moves at a breakneck speed that makes Gero's sudden obsession with marriage feel pretty forced. One minute he's a cold-blooded assassin, and the next he’s having a full-blown existential crisis—the tonal whipash is real.
Also, the "odd couple" dynamic with Mei feels a bit predictable. If you're tired of the typical shonen tropes where everything is solved by a sudden power-up or a convenient plot twist, the writing here might feel a little thin. It's high-energy and looks cool, but beneath the neon colors, it’s still relying on some pretty cliché foundations. Might be a "turn your brain off" kind of watch.
