I’m Looking for Zombie Review: Fall 2026’s Most Twisted Comedy

I'm Looking for Zombie (Zombie o Sagashitemasu) mixes big laughs with surprising cruelty. Let's see if it's worth your time and hype by this post!
I'm Looking for Zombie, also known as Zombie Sagashitemasu, premiered its first episode on October 3, 2026. To be honest, when it first aired, I didn't really give it a try or even feel excited about it, since there are so many great anime airing this season. With Black Clover Season 2, The Vermilion Mask, Even the Student Council Has Its Holes!, and even the new Keroro Gunsou☆ all airing, there were so many choices that I kept putting this title aside. But once I caught up on the latest episodes of those shows, and the name I'm Looking for Zombie made me more and more curious, I finally gave it a try. It turns out I made the right choice. It may sound hard to believe, but right after watching it, I regretted not giving it a try sooner.
I'm Looking for Zombie is quite different from the other titles we're familiar with. As its name suggests, this anime is about one of the most famous themes around the world: zombies. But it's a comedy. From the very beginning of episode 1, the whole anime is hilarious, but underneath the comedy, it's crueler than its cheerful, bright posters might lead you to imagine. This title is more than meets the eye, and it's definitely one I want to share with everyone. So let's dive in, and hopefully this helps you decide whether to give it a try.

Zombies Plus Comedy: One of Fall 2026's Gems Everyone Should Notice
In the world of anime, there are a lot of zombie-related works. We've had Zombie Land Saga, Highschool of the Dead, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, and other amazing titles. But even with so many zombie anime out there, I personally think I'm Looking for Zombie is still an interesting and unique title that everyone should notice this Fall 2026 season.
Actually, zombies plus comedy isn't anything rare. In anime, we've had Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, which became so famous that it even got a live-action adaptation. In live-action films, there are plenty of zombie comedies too. Back in the last century, Hong Kong cinema had a lot of them, with classics like Mr. Vampire (1985). Although their monsters weren't called zombies but jiangshi (kyonshi in Japanese), many of those movies were actually very funny! In terms of theme and genre alone, I'm Looking for Zombie is definitely not the only one, so why do I say it's special?
The reason I say I'm Looking for Zombie is special is that underneath its comedy, a lot of cruel stuff actually happens! Spoiler warning, if you haven't watched it yet or don't want any spoilers, you may want to skip this part. In Episode 3, I was enjoying the chill vibe and the hilarious story when suddenly, one of the main characters, Natsuki, had her arm chopped off! I was really surprised and even terrified by the scene because I didn't see it coming, and it was only Episode 3! Although it's a comedy anime, the story is intense, and a lot happens in it!
After Natsuki had her arm chopped off, the brutal scenes didn't just end there and go back to normal, everyday scenes. They continued into Episode 4! Throughout Episode 4, the team didn't blur Natsuki's wound or cover it with effects. She is still hurting, the area is red, and she is still bleeding. That scene did feel disgusting to me, since I'm someone who's weak to raw-flesh scenes like this. But at the same time, I can understand why they didn't blur it or add effects: it makes the whole anime more believable. Even though this anime has a cheerful, bright vibe and is a comedy, these cruel and brutal parts make it feel very real, and at the same time, they bring a different colour to the carefree journey of Aki, our main character.

I'm Looking for Zombie: What Is the Meaning of This Weird Title?
If you go to websites like AnimeOshi or MyAnimeList and search for Fall 2026 anime, you'll definitely notice this colourful, sunny poster, and you may have wondered, just like me, why this anime has such a weird name. Zombie anime usually have cool names, like Highschool of the Dead and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, and names like these definitely make you curious. I was also quite curious about the title I'm Looking for Zombie, but not because it's cool. It's because it's weird. One of the main reasons this anime suddenly made it onto my watch list is this mysterious gap: the cheerful, bright vibe looks so weird next to the title.
Just by the title and poster, you may think this story is about the main character, Aki, and her friends searching for a zombie in their world. That's not completely wrong, but the story actually goes way deeper. Spoiler alerts, this part also contains spoilers, so once again, if you don't want any spoilers, you may want to skip it. Personally, I think the setting of this world is similar to the Dr. Stone series. They're not exactly the same, but both stories start in a world where humans are no longer the rulers of the world and civilisation has declined, and in both, the main characters and their teams have to secure and build everything by themselves, sometimes even from scratch.
On top of that, what happens in I'm Looking for Zombie is similar to the Dr. Stone series too. I need to clarify first that I haven't read the original manga, so I may turn out to be wrong, but from what I've watched so far, the situations in both I'm Looking for Zombie and Dr. Stone weren't caused by humans themselves, but by something from the outside. Most zombie-related works go with a setting similar to the super famous Resident Evil series, where the outbreak is man-made, but I'm Looking for Zombie has chosen a different path.
Also, unlike most zombie-related works we're familiar with, I'm Looking for Zombie doesn't really focus on humanity's dark, dirty political drama. Instead, it has a shounen flavour. Like famous shounen titles such as Dr. Stone, Hunter x Hunter, and even Attack on Titan, where the father plays a big part in the hero's story, this anime follows its main character, Aki, as she sets out on a new journey to find her father. Yes, you read that right: "father" is a main keyword of this anime, and the title I'm Looking for Zombie actually stands for Aki's search for her dad. I'm Looking for Zombie doesn't just have zombies and comedy. Underneath, it also has the shounen flavour we all know and love, so of course it stands out as an interesting and unique anime among zombie titles!

The Journey of Looking for Zombie: The Shounen Personalities That Cure a Depressing World
A lot of the settings in I'm Looking for Zombie are different from other zombie-related works, but it also has something in common with them, and it's what got me so hooked on the anime: the depressing world. What I've shared so far may make you think the whole vibe of this world is cheerful and bright, but since the world has been flooded with zombies, the outside world is falling apart, and it's extremely hard for ordinary humans to survive.
The depressing world of this anime is absolutely amazing, and believe me, once you give it a try, you'll instantly be drawn into it. Instead of making the world so dark that you can't see or enjoy anything, the author and the team made it bright, so you can see everything in it. But what I'm Looking for Zombie does even better is that although the world is bright, it's hard to live a normal life there anymore. As you follow Aki's journey, you'll soon realise that although you can see everything in that world, it's also so dangerous that every move you make is life-threatening.
It may be hard to imagine just from words, so let me share some examples. In Episode 1, Aki and her team start their journey by car, but along the way, it suddenly runs out of gas, and they have no choice but to deal with a bunch of zombies that target them. A lot of intense events happen within Episode 1 alone, and the same goes for Episodes 2, 3, and 4. Almost every episode is packed with intense moments, and they really show you how one mistake can lead to a terrible result.
With countless zombies flooding the human world, life there is extremely depressing, and a lot of characters in it have gone mad, but Aki uses her shounen personality to show us an incredible journey through it. Aki is a lot like the shounen main characters we're familiar with, such as Gon, Luffy, and Naruto. She's always bright and cheerful, enjoys every moment of the journey even when bad things happen, and is curious to explore everything. Most importantly, just like those main characters, she loves close combat, even when her opponents are zombies!

I'm Looking for Zombie Suggestion: Should You Watch, And Who Will Enjoy It
I really enjoyed I'm Looking for Zombie, and I truly think it's one of the hidden gems of the Fall 2026 anime season. I strongly recommend giving it a try, but I also understand that no anime is perfect, and no anime suits everyone. So as always, in this final part, I'll list who should give it a try and who might not be interested in it. First of all, this might surprise you, but even though I'm Looking for Zombie has a shounen vibe, it's suitable for everyone.
Aki truly acts like a shounen protagonist in the anime: she shouts, leads, stays cheerful, and fights. If she were a male character, this would be the shounen story we're all familiar with. But Aki is a female character, and her bright, upbeat energy really lifts up the whole story, so even if you dislike shounen anime, I'm Looking for Zombie is still a great choice for you. To be clear, I'm not saying Aki being a female character is a bad thing; I mean the complete opposite. A girl setting out on a new journey to find her father is a really great story, and her shounen spirit is definitely the beacon that lights up the depressing world.
It may be hard to believe, but I do think this title suits almost everyone, and everyone should just give it a try. However, if you're someone who can't stand horror or gore, you may want to skip this one. No matter how funny the story is and how cheerful Aki is, in the end, I'm Looking for Zombie is a zombie story with horror elements. It doesn't have the feel of Resident Evil, but there are a lot of scenes where the main characters fight zombies, explore new areas at night, or struggle to survive in this new world. So if you're weak to horror or gore, I can't really recommend this title to you.
Other than that, please believe me and give this title a try. I promise you'll have a great time with it. That said, even if you're weak to horror, you can still try this anime, because Aki's journey gives you hints about when something bad is coming. I'm Looking for Zombie isn't a nonstop horror show; at its core, it's still Aki's journey to find her dad. So once you start following it, you'll be able to tell when Aki is about to face danger, and you can just skip the parts that feel too scary for you. Don't worry, you won't need to skip much. The story mainly focuses on Aki exploring the new world, so you definitely won't need to skip whole episodes.

Conclusion:
Thank you for reading this post! I'm Looking for Zombie is an amazing anime, and I think it would be a waste not to give it a try. Compared to other titles, it may not be at the top of everyone's Fall 2026 watch list, and it wasn't at the top of mine either, but after watching it, I can confidently say that this is the hidden gem you need to try this season. Of course, there may be other gems waiting for us, so please stay tuned for my next post, and hopefully you'll discover more titles that give you a great watching experience!
