As soon as the first BGM started playing I already had goosebumps and the scene where Qifrey saved Coco was an absolute chef’s kiss. The animation looked amazing from start to finish, not a single bad-looking scene. I’ve been waiting so long for this anime and it did NOT disappoint.

Synopsis
Coco, the daughter of a dressmaker, has been obsessed with magic her whole life, living in a world where witches are born with their abilities — or so everyone believes. Turns out, magic is actually done by drawing specific symbols, and the witches have been keeping that secret from everyone. When Coco accidentally gets her hands on this knowledge and a spell goes horribly wrong, a traveling witch named Qifrey steps in and takes her on as an apprentice. That's your setup, and it only gets more layered from there. What makes this one worth your time is the magic system. It's not waving wands or shouting incantations — it's precise, almost architectural. Witches draw intricate glyphs and the craft feels tangible, like you could almost study it yourself. The world-building around it is dense in a good way, the kind where every detail about how society works ties back to why magic is kept secret. BUG FILMS is adapting the manga, and the source material has some of the most gorgeous artwork in seinen right now, so there's a lot of potential for the visuals to really land. The tone sits somewhere between The Ancient Magus' Bride's quiet wonder and Little Witch Academia's sense of discovery, but with an undercurrent closer to Made in Abyss — the world is beautiful, but there are real stakes hiding beneath the surface. If you want a fantasy that treats its magic with the same care a mystery treats its clues, this is the one.
