QUICK TAKES

The episode shows the two apprentices and their perspectives on taking the test.
It also features emotional moments that make it warm.
Overall — Exciting test, 8/10

This is a good build-up episode. The other characters get their development through the way they confront their insecurities. The visual and the background music is great as usual.

Que lindos los hechizos de Riche !! Es un episodio muy interesante para conocer más sobre ella ~

Another episode not progressing the main character at all, just a overall setup for the next episode, also exploring unanswered questions for previous episode, but not answering them yet either.
Does not feel like the last 3 episode of an otherwise strong anime since the beginning.

I liked how the episode showed the difference in Qifrey's teaching method compared to other teachers.

I really love Olruggio's character. He seems tough, but he's actually so warm-hearted. On another note, I just can't help but notice the details in Coco's subtle actions, especially how she fixes her hair. It's simply so detailed and clean.

I didn’t expect to see this side of Riche’s personality, it was really interesting. I like how the story gives attention to the other characters instead of focusing only on Coco. Everyone gets their moment and doesn’t feel like just another NPC.

Love how this time we get to see more of Richeh's! I've been curious about her for a while, and it coinciding with Agott's test is bound to make things interesting. It may very well bring changes to the girls once more, but whether that's good or not is going to be something I look forward to.

In this episode, we encounter yet another magical universe being built, a new test that elevates the apprentices' status: The Test in Serpentback Cave.
The test allows apprentices to draw magic in front of Outsiders with enough mastery so that the secret isn't discovered.
However, not only Agathe goes to the test, but also Riché, who is surprised by Qifrey's decision. We see that yet another of the white-haired wizard's apprentices has complex problems and a traumatic past. Riché only wants to draw the magic she desires, and Qifrey, as a teacher, needs to teach her: ignorance has a price. Continuously learning, even things you don't want to, broadens the range of possibilities for solving the problems that arise.
We gain a better understanding of what the Day of the Pact was. What happened in a world where everyone had access to magic and the horrors that led to magic being restricted to a small group. We see the Brimmed Caps once again in action. Their goal is clear: to interfere with children, those who are the future of magic.

Feel so bad about Euini because his teacher leave him. But this episode really wonderful and beautiful with many animal were introduced here. Also the story is about one of the character i didn't expect, really.

i literally dont want this to end yet ;---; a richeh centric episode!!!! what a beautiful and enriching episode, the dialogues are to die for and it feels like im reading a novel as it beautifully unfolds or unravels itself in front of me. im just speechless at how lovely this was executed, i wanna wait first for this to end before i read the manga!

Very slow episode with nothing interesting happening.

coco is just such a compassionate and appreciative kid made me think ab how my own father would have probably liked me better if i was just a little bit more like her. oh sorry didnt mean to trauma dump. and seeing olly and qifrey interact was so cute and domestic like ok we get it married couple....

A good episode that shows more of the creatures who live in this magical world and the presentation of more essential characters to the growth of this anime
EPISODE CONTEXT
Coming directly off 'A Promise in Silver,' where Agott's preparation for her second test was front and center, this episode pivots to Richeh as the examination gets underway inside Serpentback Cave. With only two episodes remaining in the season, this chapter serves as the emotional grounding before what will likely be a more climactic close — developing the apprentices as individuals before the season draws their journeys together.
