📖 SYNOPSIS
Between reading tarot cards and running track, Hitomi Kanzaki lives a pretty normal high school life — until a boy with a sword literally falls out of the sky, drags her into a dragon fight, and then a beam of light whisks them both away to a world called Gaea, where you can look up and see the Earth hanging in the sky like a second moon. From there, Hitomi gets pulled into a full-scale war between kingdoms piloting giant mechs called Guymelefs, caught between Van, the young prince of a destroyed nation, and the sprawling Zaibach Empire that wants to reshape everything.
What makes this 26-episode TV series hit different is the mix. It's isekai before isekai was a genre label. It's mecha, but draped in capes and swords and medieval politics instead of sci-fi corridors. The romance is genuinely complicated — a love triangle where you understand every angle — and it all lands because the characters feel real under the fantasy armor. Then there's Yoko Kanno's soundtrack, which is atmospheric and sweeping in a way that sticks with you long after you finish.
The tone is romantic and melancholy without being slow. Sunrise made this back in 1996 and the craft still holds up. If you liked the emotional isekai pull of Haruka: Beyond the Stream of Time, or the way RahXephon weaves romance into its mecha framework, this one walks similar ground. It's the kind of show that rewards you for caring about the characters as much as the battles.
