The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Meet Saku Fukuzawa — a regular office worker running on fumes, juggling long commutes, late nights, the whole grind. The one thing keeping her life from falling apart is her cat, Yukichi. Except Yukichi is a massive black Maine Coon who stands taller than her and has somehow decided he's in charge of the household. He cooks dinner, does the laundry, goes grocery shopping, and generally keeps things running while Saku stumbles through her work schedule. Nobody can really explain why or how this cat got so big or so competent, and the show doesn't stress about it either. That's kind of the charm. This 13-episode TV series from 2023 is pure comfort viewing. The whole vibe is watching a giant fluffy cat silently judge his owner's life choices while also making sure she eats a proper meal. It's warm, it's funny in a low-key way, and it never tries to be more than what it is — a cozy slice-of-life with one very capable cat. If you liked the domestic odd-couple energy of Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon, or the absurd cohabitation humor of Gal to Kyouryuu, this fits right in that lane. There's also some Gokushufudou energy here, just swap the yakuza househusband for a cat who's arguably more intimidating. It's the kind of show you throw on after a rough day when you just want something gentle and a little ridiculous.
