Hanaori-san Still Wants to Fight in the Next Life
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Meet Ryusei Narukami, a NEET who spends his days gaming in his room, perfectly content to rot away in peace. Turns out he used to be a Demon King in another world, got killed by a hero, and reincarnated into modern Japan. Honestly, not a bad deal: no responsibilities, no kingdom to run, just vibes. That is, until the hero who killed him shows up at his door. She's reincarnated too, except now she's a high school girl named Meteor Hanaori, and she hasn't forgotten their rivalry one bit. Somehow this whole situation drags Ryusei out of his room and into a teaching job at her school, which is exactly the kind of unhinged career move you'd expect from a former Demon King with zero life skills. The whole thing plays out as this comedic, romantic back-and-forth between two people who used to fight to the death and now have to coexist in a world where the stakes are homework and social awkwardness instead of world domination. Their dynamic carries the show, enemies-to-whatever-this-is, but in a slice-of-life wrapper. If you liked The Devil Is a Part-Timer for the "fantasy villain adjusts to mundane life" angle, or KonoSuba for the chaotic character chemistry, this hits a similar spot. The seinen demographic means it leans a bit more grounded in its humor rather than going full slapstick. It's a fun spin on reincarnation stories that's more interested in the relationship than the lore, and that honestly works in its favor.

the aurora over the school during the whole fight did more for the tension than any of the shouting. quiet menacing sky while everyone panics below
we're supposed to be here for a demon king and a battle hungry hero girl and now the show wants a love triangle and a homewrecker princess. I signed up for comedies not this
that coffee vs tea slip was the whole episode for me. Ryusei said coffee and Meru just corrected him to tea like it was nothing. that's not a memory gap that's a different person
I keep going back and forth on Meru. charming on the surface but she reached for Ryusei's cup and called it tea and my brain just screamed red flag the whole time
The way Ryusei is terrified of ghosts but Mietia just decks the giant skull demon and starts crying afterwards. That dynamic is perfect. Also her tearing her bun in half to share with him on the street corner might be the softest moment in the whole series so far
I actually trade forex and that Pani Poni Dash style bit about currency exchange being scarier than bomb defusing had me dying. Also Nagamori in the elf ears corset was not on my bingo card but im not complaining
Mietia bringing out the roper monster to teach those bullies a lesson was darkly amazing. She said she didnt kill anyone and honestly that is the hero standard here. Ayame handled her business her own way and I respect it even if the slime tentacle part was a lot
The revenge talk with Ayame is the best thing this show has done. Ryusei straight up told her revenge is awesome instead of some lame forgiveness speech. That is the demon lord energy I signed up for. And then he drops the reveal that he wiped out a kingdom In the past
So that ending. Wait a minute. "My mage"? That has to be the Princess from his past life. The show is really about to drop a whole love triangle on us right when the Meteor ship was sailing. Triangle of Sadness is right
I need to know who sealed that rift. A blue haired student no one talks about just casually fixed everything and walked away. That is way too suspicious to be a side character. The princess theory is gaining traction with me now
Good
The bikini armor moment is peak comedy because Rokudo-sensei fooled her again. She believed the sage's advice twice this episode and it backfired both times. The bloomers reveal killed me. This show knows exactly what it is and I respect it
Kuraishi opening up about her mana overflow made me like her way more. She's not just comic relief. And Ryusei's three pillars of spellcasting advice actually felt like real teaching instead of a gag. Then the Counter Spell moment against those arrogant brats was pure satisfaction. Seeing Koitsu and Aitsu get pinned to the wall with obsidian spikes is exactly the petty revenge I watch this for
So the sword is worth a BILLION yen and she just wears it to school like a cheap ring from a gacha machine. Meteor being accidentally rich and completely uninterested in the money is so on brand for her character
Moe calling Meteor her sister was the highlight for me. The whole family is just shipping this Demon Lord and Hero couple harder than the actual people involved. Also the nosebleed from feeding her steak is a classic bit done well
The lap pillow reversal had me laughing out loud. Meteor demanding it and then complaining his thighs are too bony is exactly the energy this show needs. Also Rokudo-sensei being the real villain of this romance is the best running gag
I couldn't stop smiling at Hanaori grabbing Ryusei's wrist when he started manifesting that demon magic. She genuinely fears losing him to his old self and that carries so much weight after all the comedy. Best emotional beat this episode
Amou got taken out way too fast by the Saint. all that buildup about dimensional magic and she just absorbs his fireballs like it's a lecture demo
Meteor standing in the doorway hearing the whole proposal broke something in me. she spent the entire episode getting quieter and now she hears that. Protect Meteor forever
