Synopsis
Tohru Honda is sixteen, reeling from the loss of her mom, and with her grandfather's house under renovation, ends up living in a tent in the woods. She's not complaining about it either, she just quietly gets on with things, which tells you a lot about her as a character. Then she stumbles onto land owned by the Sohma family, and her classmate Yuki and his cousin Shigure discover her situation and take her in. Everything seems like a sweet domestic setup until she accidentally hugs one of them, and he turns into a rat. Turns out thirteen members of the Sohma family are cursed by the Chinese zodiac: hug someone of the opposite sex, become the animal. A rat, a cat, a dog, and so on. What starts as a quirky supernatural premise slowly peels back into something genuinely heavy. Each Sohma carries real emotional weight from growing up under this curse, and Tohru's quiet kindness becomes the thing that starts to crack those walls open. The love triangle between her, the reserved Yuki, and the hot-headed Kyo gives the romance real tension without feeling forced. If you liked the found-family warmth of Clannad or the school-life charm of Toradora, this hits a similar nerve. Fans of Ouran High School Host Club will recognize the reverse-harem energy, but Fruits Basket leans harder into the emotional side. This 2001 TV series runs 26 episodes and adapts part of the manga, enough to get you deeply attached to these characters and their baggage.

This is another one of my favorite anime from when I was in high school. I had such a huge crush on Yuki back then, and I really wanted him to end up with Tohru. But then I changed my mind and started rooting for Kyo instead. Don’t ask me why, you’ll understand once you watch the series all the way to the end.
The season finale brings a lot of built-up tension to a head. Relationships get tested, hard conversations happen, and it's an emotional close to the arc. Bittersweet but satisfying.
A major turning point for Kyo that changes the mood of the whole show going forward. Tohru finds herself in the middle of something intense. Heavier, more dramatic territory here.
A gloomier, more introspective episode. Kyo's clearly not doing great, and a couple of important people come to check in on him. Sets up something bigger without giving too much away.
Another visitor arrives at Shigure's, bringing plenty of chaos with them at first. Starts off funny, then takes a turn that changes the tone. Keeps you guessing.
the student council arc begins and the fan club energy is fully unhinged 😂 new character enters the picture and immediately shakes things up. great balance of comedy and character work throughout. watch it things are moving in interesting
this ep a new character gets introduced and they are immediately one of the most adorable characters in the whole show 🐯 tohru being tohru hahahah about it is everything honestly. emotional and sweet in equal measure. watch it the character dynamic here is so heartwarming fr.
yame episode and buckle up because this man is something else entirely 😂 hahahah the dress shop visit is chaotic and hilarious from start to finish. great comedy ep that also gives you more ayame and yuki content. watch it no hesitation
okay so tohru having a rough time and the gang rallying around her is the most wholesome thing 🥺 simple premise but the character moments land really hard here. easy to underrate dont make that mistake. the way everyone shows up for her is everything fr.
the yuki fan club episode and honestly they carry this one completely 😂 what starts as a scheming episode turns into something way funnier than expected. hana's whole deal gets explored and its everything. watch it the comedy here is genuinely top tier fr.
well on this episode we meet a new member of the Sohma family, and she's not easy to get close to. Tohru does what Tohru does best hahahah keeps trying anyway. Sweet and a little bittersweet.
this ep the group outing turns into more than anyone bargained for. hahahah Shigure's plans never go the simple route. Tohru's got a feeling something's up with Kyo and Yuki, and honestly her instincts are usually right.
The conclusion was satisfying and wholesome; for a bit, things got intense. Overall — happy ending, 8/10.

Episode final yang sangat emotional, hampir semua masalah terselesaikan dengan magic words Tooru yang bisa menggerakan hati seseorang. Atmosfer yang dari berat, ke intens, lalu mencair jadi wholesome. Momen penutupnya juga sangat menghangatkan hati, dan animasinya berhasil visualisasikan suasana dengan baik.
Shock banget sama perubahan bentuknya! Suasana lagi intens, tiba-tiba aja muncul Akito dengan dialognya yang ngeselin. Bener-bener vibe di episode ini berat banget, entah kenapa ada yang berubah juga dari Tooru. Dan aku juga kurang ngerti di momen terakhir itu maksudnya gimana, lagi-lagi ceritanya menggantung.
