Demon Lord Dante
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Ryo Utsugi is a high school kid who begins plagued by nightmares so vivid and violent they feel like memories. Then the nightmares start bleeding into his waking life — voices, visions of women being murdered, a growing sense that something ancient and enormous has its eye on him. It turns out there's a cult operating in the shadows of modern Japan with one goal: resurrect a demon lord named Dante. And Ryo, for reasons he doesn't yet understand, is tangled up in all of it whether he wants to be or not. His sister gets pulled in too, which raises the stakes from 'weird and unsettling' to 'genuinely dangerous' fast. The tone here is dark and doesn't apologize for it — this is horror-leaning supernatural action with a mythological backbone, not a fun monster-of-the-week setup. If you've watched Devilman or Devilman Crybaby and want to go deeper into Go Nagai's original work, Maou Dante is essentially the precursor — same DNA of body horror, moral ambiguity, and demons wrapped in human skin. Fans of Amon: Apocalypse of Devilman will recognize the atmosphere immediately. It's a short run at 13 episodes, so it commits to its premise without much padding. The 2002 animation shows its age, but the underlying story has that specific unsettling quality that classic horror anime does well.
