I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl in My Class
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Maehara Maki is the kind of high schooler who eats lunch alone and has basically accepted that as his life. Then Umi Asanagi, quietly ranked by the guys in class as the 'second cutest girl' behind her own best friend: starts showing up at his place on Fridays to play video games, watch movies, and read manga. Not because she has to. Not because of some bet or misunderstanding. She just... wants to hang out. And Maki has no idea what to do with that. The whole premise lives in that gap between someone who's forgotten how friendship works and someone who treats it like the most natural thing in the world. It's a comedy-romance setup, but what makes it feel different is how much it leans into the awkwardness of a guy slowly realizing that someone actually enjoys his company. There's no grand confession driving things forward, just two people getting comfortable around each other, one Friday at a time. If you liked the low-key warmth of Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie or the way Tomo-chan Is a Girl! played with friendship blurring into something more, this hits a similar frequency. Studio Connect is handling the adaptation from the light novel, set for 2026. The tone sits somewhere between cozy and gently embarrassing, which honestly is what good slice-of-life romance should feel like.

My first.
A great episode to close the series. The interactions between Maki and Umi are becoming increasingly adorable. Their relationship develops rapidly, so is their friendship with their classmates. Overall, this series is fun and interesting.

This supposed to be a wholesome episode but Maki's dad is just so annoying. But at least, Maki's character get some development. Besides that, there are also sweet and adorable moments between Maki and Umi.

This is not a bad opening episode. The plot begins with typical school romance comedy genre. The pacing is somewhat slow, and there haven't been any significant plot developments yet. But at least the interaction between Maehara and Umi is quite enjoyable.
Final de capitulo bueno, pero nada memorable. Momentos tiernos con los amigos y entre ellos.
Este capitulo me pareció lento, predecible y un poco más de lo mismo, se enferma y lo cuidan, el festival... Nada nuevo
I really like the story of this series. I love how Maki slowly but surely became more confident as the episodes passed by. At first, I thought this would be your classic "cowardly" MC who would just be annoying and timid all the time, but I was so wrong. Maki is actually such a gigachad. Umi is a great character too. I love how proactive she is in developing their relationship, and what I love most about her is how naturally she gradually opens up to Maki about her own vulnerabilities and insecurities. It never feels forced or rushed, which really helped build their relationship, and I liked that a lot. Craftsmanship-wise, to be honest, I didn't really like the art style at first, but as the episodes passed by, I started liking it a lot. Though, my take still stands: the art style isn't the best, but it isn't as bad as I first claimed it to be. That said, I have to give the visuals the credit they deserve. I really love the colors in this series. They're really beautiful to look at, especially during the major scenes. Overall, I'd rate this series a 9/10.
What a beautiful way to wrap up the series. I absolutely loved the scene under the sakura blossoms. It was such a beautiful, vivid scene. I really think the colors of the night sky enhanced Umi's beauty a lot, and that's coming from me, someone who has had a few nitpicks with the art style since the very beginning.
very good
