Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad

Ryusuke is determined to recruit a new band while Koyuki gets to know the feisty Maho. The slower pace might not be for everyone, but I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the characters throughout these first few episodes. I especially like Koyuki’s budding interest in music.

Koyuki steps outside of his comfort zone to see Ryusuke’s band perform live. We’re also introduced to some of Ryusuke’s bandmates, though it seems not everyone gets along very well. I’m excited to see how Koyuki changes throughout the show. Right now, he’s shy and a bit insecure, but I’m sure his new friends are going to help bring him out of his shell.

Fourteen year old's Koyuki's boring life is turned upside-down when he meets mysterious guitarist Ryusuke. The first episode might not be too eventful, but does it's job by introducing us to the characters and set's a moody, grungy tone. I just know I'm going to love the music in this!

“Indies” captures BECK at its most authentic, no glamor, just the pure grind. From rehearsals to moving throug the underground scene, you feel the weight of chasing music without shortcuts. Ray’s presence adds heart, reminding us that passion alone isn’t enough,you have to endure

It was a drag in the early episodes but the payoff is worth it. Loved the music and the slideshow. That dialogue callback to when they first met at the end is peak! The band continues their path to greatness. I would go to a Beck concert in a heartbeat. See you at the Live house!

They nailed what being a musician actually feels like. One day you're on top of the world, the next day things are back to normal again. Bittersweet doesn't cover it. Almost made me cry. Fluid character acting this episode, Koyuki's emotions especially. We are going to miss Beck.

Tables turned fast and everything they worked for finally feels real. Mostly music this time and that is exactly how a live gig should feel, immersive and relentless! So many feelings packed into one episode! It was a great musical performance. Can't wait for that final song!

Ryusuke come on, not now. Bad timing and bad move, our boy deserved better. Someone showing up the exact moment Koyuki tried to innocently escape that situation is suspiciously convenient. And that cover song was great! Koyuki has come so far from where he started. YOU ROCK BRO.

Boy, you were too gullible and naive. That bet is stupid and the blond guy clearly didn't do his homework. The animation this episode is the best it's been though, that bike chase scene especially, and the directing choices were spot on too. Favorite episode of the series so far!

Maho has Koyuki and the entire audience confused at this point. That scene at the train station where he reflects on life hits harder than it should. Ryusuke's situation is getting dire, the conditions of that contract are giving me a bad feeling. Lastly, the new ED is so good!

Ryusuke is the ultimate wingman of a brother!! Our boy had every opportunity and chose to sleep with the guitar instead... bro make a move already! The breakfast scene was hilarious too. Poor Chiba getting left out of the dream, though. Funny episode, and a great change of pace.

Oh no, they took Beck... but at least someone made it out in one piece. The engrish this episode was actually convincing. Maho bringing another guy was genuinely infuriating, done with her games. The Dying Breed movie was a letdown. Glad our boy is getting recognized though.

Oh boy the secret is out, and Ryusuke is in serious trouble! Scared for him but also this is his own doing. Things just escalated fast. Beck went from band drama to genuinely tense in this episode. Also baby beck is adorable!

Bro sang her name... he doesn't even realize he has game. Girl, you gave him every mixed signal in the book, you can't be upset now. They're both being stupid and it's frustrating. You two stop playing games and end the love triangle already! Decent development this episode.

Her blond friend is such a jerk! She really needs better taste in company. Why do these people keep picking on our guy? Ugh Koyuki, please grow a spine bro, just once. And another love triangle brewing on the horizon? Beck please no. Frustrating episode.

Koyuki grinding a terrible job in order to purchase a guitar is peak hustle. The talented guitarist shopkeeper that didn't make it is a quiet gut punch... sad reality for most musicians. Also is this band anime pivoting into a criminal mystery now?

That one song never got old no matter how many times the band played it. Their love triangle sure wrapped up fast! More shows should take note. Our dude literally dreaming about standing alongside those rock legends. This episode felt like a natural ending point.

The bully getting beat up felt so good. His classmate's crush looking exactly like a genderbent version of him is sending me. This guy roaring about youth while looking middle-aged is ironic. Animation is melty and off-model this episode but the soundtrack carries as always.

Bro not knowing where he stood and making a move, can't fully blame him. The pool scene had bad idea written all over it the second it appeared. And setting someone's guitar on fire is just mean. Emotionally messy episode.

Maho what are you doing!? Now you're both going to get sick! The new guy has a decent engrish accent all things considered. And that singing scene was great.
