Fourteen year old's Koyuki's boring life is turned upside-down when he meets mysterious guitarist Ryusuke.

The first episode might not be too eventful, but does it's job by introducing us to the characters and set's a moody, grungy tone.

I just know I'm going to love the music in this!

The first episode is a vibe. Everything from the characters, to the backgrounds and overall animation quality. You might think that not much happens but what you're watching is actually good. Yeah, the English in the voice acting is a little out of place but overall it's decent.

Ryusuke's focus and conviction... actually brutal.
Slow paced with dated animation and gloriously goofy engrish from the Japanese VAs.
If you can vibe with the rough production, the heart is already there.
And the opening theme absolutely slaps. I WADE MADE TO HIT IN AMERICA!

Interesting anime, but nothing much happened in this episode to be honest. The art style is a little different than what im used to, but the story is very engaging. I'm not loving the main character a lot but at least the other guy is interesting and the girl isn't annoying.

This episode was quiet and understated. Yukio's boring life was set up here so fast. The animation here was plain and the pacing was quite slow but it fits the mood. This ep ends up more on genuine curiosity rather than hype for the future eps.

Definitely like the series so far. The music is a big part of making it interesting. I did like the Engrish from the "foreigners." It is nice to hear a little English in anime without it having to be dubbed. I also do like how the animation syncs with the music.

EPISODE CONTEXT

As episode 1 of 26, 'The View at Fourteen' is pure foundation — establishing Koyuki's emotional baseline of aimlessness so that every subsequent development carries weight. No prior episodes exist; this is the entry point into the series' core themes of self-discovery through music. The next episode, 'Live House,' directly builds on the connection forged here by exposing Koyuki to live music for the first time, beginning the transformation this premiere carefully sets up.
