Iron Wok Jan: Summer 2026’s Most Aggressive and Delicious New Anime

The legendary manga, Iron Wok Jan is finally animated! Get ready for the most aggressive, competitive, and delicious new anime of the Summer 2026 season.
On July 5, 2026, Iron Wok Jan released its first episode globally, introducing everyone to amazing Chūka food wars. Since this title isn't that famous and doesn't have incredible animation, I believe many of you didn't notice this announcement, but I am actually quite looking forward to it. I love cooking and I love anime that introduce me to good food—like Toriko, the Campfire Cooking in Another World series, and the Restaurant to Another World (Isekai Shokudou) series, so even though this anime hasn't been released yet, I have already added it to my watchlist.

If you are someone who has the same taste as me and loves good food, then you can stop right here and add this title to your watchlist, since this anime isn't something we want to sleep on. However, if you are someone who isn't really into food anime but wants to try something new, then please allow me to walk you through why you should give this anime a try.
In case you're confused, please allow me to explain it again: Iron Wok Jan is going to air on July 5, 2026, so we can't watch any episodes until then. However, we can currently watch every trailer on YouTube for free to get a feel for what kind of anime Iron Wok Jan is. I have watched all the trailers, and as someone who loves food, I can tell you that I got really hungry just by watching them.

As its name suggests, Iron Wok Jan is a food anime, not a battle anime, so of course it doesn't have high-quality battle animation, nor does it have the kind of love story that will make you cry. Although on paper you might think Iron Wok Jan doesn't have any massive selling points, the cooking animation and the characters' expressions are surprisingly good.
Currently we only have trailers, but based on their quality, I'm confident in declaring Iron Wok Jan a must-watch for the upcoming season. I know that besides my own thoughts, you might have some burning questions about this new series, so I've listed them below. I hope these FAQs help you start your own journey into Iron Wok Jan!

What cuisine does Iron Wok Jan focus on? Most food anime don't focus on one specific cuisine style, for example, like Toriko, Campfire Cooking in Another World, or Restaurant to Another World. This makes Iron Wok Jan unique as it shares similarity with the legendary anime Chūka Ichiban! (also known as Cooking Master Boy) because it focuses entirely on Chūka cuisine.
For those who are wondering what Chūka is, in terms of food, Chūka usually refers to Japanese-style Chinese cuisine or specific Japanese-inspired Chinese dishes.
Why should we get excited for an old manga series? For those who aren't familiar with this title, the original Iron Wok Jan manga actually ended in the year 2000, almost 26 years ago! For anyone reading this post, it's completely natural to ask: why should we be interested in such an old series?
To be honest, I don't really know the backstory behind this adaptation, but judging purely by the trailers, the production team has used modern technology to finally give us the amazing cooking animation fans have waited so long for. You can really tell that the animation looks incredible, and it's definitely not just fan service for older viewers, but something that can easily attract a brand-new audience today.

Should we watch it episode by episode, or wait for the whole series? I understand there are two types of anime watchers: one type watches a series week by week, while the other waits for the whole season to finish so they can binge it all at once. Both approaches are totally fine and lead to different viewing experiences.
Although I'll be watching it episode by episode, mostly because I'm curious what kind of Chūka cuisine the team will showcase, I actually suggest most people wait for the series to wrap up. Iron Wok Jan does follow a continuous plot, but I think it will be just like other cooking anime, always cutting to a cliffhanger right at the most delicious part. To get the absolute best viewing experience, waiting for the full season will be the way to go.

The honest downside. No anime is perfect. Even though I am quite excited and really looking forward to its official airing, it could still flop—especially nowadays, when there are so many strong anime competing out there. After watching all the trailers, they definitely made me really hungry and left me wanting to try the food, but I don't really feel like the series has a heavy or complex plot.
Judging by these trailers, I feel like Iron Wok Jan will be quite similar to the Campfire Cooking in Another World and Restaurant to Another World (Isekai Shokudou) series; while the food looks absolutely amazing, the overarching story itself isn't that deep.
Here’s a great YouTube video worth checking out.
Since this anime will feature a lot of great Chūka cuisine, I feel like everyone should give it a try—even if you're someone who prefers a deep story or is looking for an anime that will blow your mind. Through this series, you might even get some inspiration to cook a great Chūka meal for yourself and your family. I will be watching this anime episode by episode, so once it's released, I'll be writing weekly reviews to track just how many amazing dishes this show has to offer.
Thank you for reading this post! I completely understand everyone's hesitation; no one wants to invest their time and energy into an anime that might suddenly go downhill or face massive backlash. For those of you who want to wait for the community's feedback before diving in, I highly recommend using AnimeOshi. Once Iron Wok Jan starts airing, fans will be leaving their episode-by-episode reviews, so you'll know exactly whether it's a must-watch or a pass!
