Cooking Master Boy
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Cooking in 19th century China isn't just a job. it's a path to power, fame, and occasionally prison. Chuuka Ichiban! takes place during a fictional period called 'The Era of the Cooking Wars,' where top chefs are treated like warriors and disrespecting one can land you behind bars. The story follows Liu Mao Xing, a young chef from Szechuan whose late mother was legendary enough to be called the 'Fairy of Cuisine.' Carrying that legacy, Mao travels across China to master every regional cooking style he can find, proving himself along the way through culinary challenges that feel genuinely high-stakes. It sounds low-key, but the cooking battles in this show have the same energy as a shonen fight sequence: rivals, dramatic reveals, technique breakdowns and all. The historical Qing Dynasty backdrop actually adds something real, because the dishes and methods on screen reflect authentic Chinese culinary traditions rather than made-up fantasy food. If you liked Shokugeki no Souma but want something with a bit more heart and less fanservice, this scratches that same itch. Fans of Yakitate!! Japan will also recognize the rhythm: passionate protagonist, quirky rivals, and reactions that treat food like a matter of life and death. It's a 52-episode TV series from 1997, so the pacing is old-school, but the warmth and sincerity of Mao's journey hold up surprisingly well.

This anime did not disappoint when it comes to doing what you love and helping others. The characters are superb in motivating and having a backstory that captivates the watcher's attention. The style of art is very beautiful too, which made the cooked dish look delicious.
