When Will Ayumu Make His Move?
Oshimeter
Synopsis
When middle school kendo champion Ayumu Tanaka begins his first year in high school, he does not take the expected route of joining the Kendo Club; he signs up for the unofficial Shogi Club instead. His sole motive is falling in love at first sight with Urushi Yaotome—the club's president and only member—and will do anything to get closer to her. However, Ayumu decides not to confess to Urushi until he can beat her in a match of shogi fair and square. Naturally, this self-imposed hurdle is a formidable challenge for Ayumu to overcome, as Urushi is far more experienced at the game and sees through his every strategy. Nevertheless, this does not stop him from praising her looks, her skill, or even her smile, which, coupled with Ayumu's expressionless face and direct approach, makes Urushi constantly blush beet red. Learning more about shogi and the charming player sitting across from him, Ayumu inches toward making his confession with each exciting round they play together—even if it is one pawn at a time!

I loved how it ended even if it is a bit cliche. I have to admit, my heart raced during that final scene but I guess we have to read the manga to see its continuation. That was a pretty enjoyable episode! The realization scene was, in my opinion, really well done! I love this series and its characters, Maki is the GOAT and Rin is such a good girl! Hoping for a season 2 in the future!
Maki literally carried this episode! She is just a very fun character to watch! Aside from that, distance is also one of the things that may make or break a relationship. We can see that in full effect here! A bit of distance will definitely be what brings them more closer once Urushi finishes the school trip. Also, I respect Ayumu's hardwork in getting better at shogi! Will he finally beat Urushi in the finale? I recommend this episode!
This is probably my favorite episode so far! The Urushi x Ayumu shippers are definitely getting a ton of development this episode! The parents are an intersting bunch of side characters as well! I hope we get to see more of them! Ayumu is definitely making the right moves for Urushi. So good, you would actually mistake them for an official couple. You two, just get married already! Highly recommended to watch this episode!
A somewhat romantic episode for both the main cast and the supporting cast! You can really tell that Urushi and Ayumu is WAY closer that they were a year ago. I love that the development is pretty organic and would actually make sense in the real world. Urushi's lack of athletic ability is also fun to watch! A pretty enjoyable episode for me, would definitely recommend it!
I love how this episode develops Rin as a character. I also love the brother and sister dynamic of Rin and Ayumu. Urushi being an ideal club president was also very fun to watch! Overall, this is a very fun and comedic episode to watch while still expanding on the overall narrative! Would recommend people to watch this.
I love this episode! Although I do admit that the flashback sequence is a tad generic but I get it when they said that that feeling hits like a lightning. It really does! And we can see how that happened to our man, Ayumu. Props to him for acting on it! I have no opinions on their kouhai at the moment but I am interested to see how their character develops. I recommend this episode for the plot!
This is probably my least favorite episode in the series so far. It's not bad, it just isn't as good as the previous episodes. Not to say that you should skip it but it just has the cute stuff with it while also progressing the side characters. Overall a pretty mediocre episode.
That was a very sweet episode! I am especially fond of seeing Urushi's past and how the Okonomiyaki chef's attitude towards them. What a very heartwarming episode! All parts of these episode is a must watch, I guarantee it! At this point, I'm surprised they aren't still together. I am looking forward to the next episode, as always.
If things went a little different this episode, this could have been the finale. Why? That is why you need to watch this episode to find out! It is now Christmas and Ayumu and Urushi is still on the roll with their romance progression! I love it that Urushi is continuing with using Tanaka’s first name. You could see that they are getting closer and closer! I cannot wait for the next episode. Truly a diabetes inducing chapter!
LOVE THIS EPISODE! especially their exchange on the last part! It definitely has some conversations patterned after Takagi-san but I love how it is executed very much! I love how their romance is developing and it is still just episode 3! I highly recommend this episode because it advances the narrative and the main cast's relationship!
A great last episode that leaves you really wanting for more. Sakurako and Takuya's scene was like force addition which I did not like and wished a bit more of a emotional end to their season. While Urushi's realisation and Ayumu's growth in shogi was a great end to their's that makes me excited for the development of their relationship and the change to their dynamic if a next season ever comes.
What a cute and sweet episode as we again see a new side of our characters being apart from one another. It makes you smile and relate to them which speaks to the immersiveness of the episode because of the great pacing and engaging soundtrack that really elecates the characters' conversations and expressions. A great cliffhanger in the end that makes you want to watch the next one.
Great episode as we get to know more about Urushi as we are introduced to her family and get a little of her parents teasing Urushi about Ayumu. A great showing of progress of their romance and along with the cliffhanged school trip, makes you excited for the upcoming episodes.
A fun relaxing episode as the episode focused on the bonding of the club members. I love that in an episode where there is not much romantic conversation between Ayumu and Urushi, they added more screen time for Takeru and Sakurako to satisfy our romance lovers.
Great episode. They immediately made use of the presence of a Rin, a new character, and delivered diverse new dynamics and interactions of the casts while simulanously introducing who Rin is as a person. We get to see cute new sides of Ayumu as she is now a club president and as a potential love rival appears.
We finally see the first meeting of Urushi and Ayumu at the perfect time. It is amazing how fitting the way Ayumu fell in love with his personality and character. The addition of a new character was also well paced before the scenes become repetitive and boring. An episode with just the right amount of lore for a relaxing romance anime.
Another satisfying episode for my romance craving heart. I love the fresh interactions yet again this episode as we see a bit more of Ayumu getting flustered because of Valentines and Urushi making body contact. I love that we finally see our two pair of couples together in one scene being all bashfull with each other that really gives a huge smile to our faces.
The episode really delivered on what I look for in each episode with it's cute flirty scenes and cute reactions of our characters that satisfies the romance enjoyer inside me. Urushi's inner turmoil during the cat scene was very fun and the other couple's interaction this episode really makes me want them to get covered more.
I was worried when we are already at christmas and new years but I like that they just used the events for the couples' progress insteas of dropping major turning points because the anime has just started. The calm vibes of the episodes was very relaxing and thr small flirting of the couples just made it a little bit more satisfying.
It is such a fresh feeling to get a blunt, straightforward, and stoic romantic character like Ayumu instead of a very shy male lead that can't get a straight sentence out without blushing. Ayumu's happy reactions that is represented by his deep breaths and followed by his true feelings always makes you smile and his character is perfectly complimented by Urushi's shy but courageous responses to Ayumu's flirty lines. Overall a great episode that satisfies my romance seeking brain.
