Synopsis

As the most powerful mage in the Kingdom of Ridill, Monica Everett can cast spells without chanting, defeated a legendary black dragon solo, and earned a seat among the Seven Sages at just fifteen years old. The catch? She developed chantless magic because she's too shy to speak in front of people. She lives alone on a mountaintop specifically to avoid human interaction. That's your protagonist. Her quiet life gets blown up when a fellow Sage assigns her a secret mission: go undercover at the elite Serendia Academy and protect the second prince, Felix, without anyone finding out who she really is. So now this socially terrified genius has to pretend to be a normal student, make small talk, attend classes, and somehow guard royalty, all while hiding the fact that she's one of the most dangerous people in the kingdom. This 13-episode TV series from Studio Gokumi is a fantasy-school blend that leans into the contrast between Monica's overwhelming power and her complete inability to hold a conversation. The tone is youthful and warm, more about her navigating friendships and academy intrigue than constant battle scenes. If you liked the overpowered-but-hiding-it dynamic from The Irregular at Magic High School, or the gentle character focus of The Ancient Magus' Bride, this sits in a similar space but with its own personality. The social anxiety angle isn't played purely for comedy either, but it actually shapes the magic system itself, which is a neat touch.

This is the best send off the series's season could have. The tense action scene was insane. I really like how Monica showed off her quick thinking, making that strategy on a whim. And that bookstore scene, I almost cried along with Monica, because she deserve that validation, for her previous believe to be shattered. I really enjoy how Monica and the prince, or "Ike" are interacting, I might even dare to say that I ship them lol. Just a sweet ending to this series, and i'll definitely be on the lookout for season 2!

A build up episode for the last episode. I really like that we get to meet another fresh face, something that I think this series need. But to see her so late is making me raised a eyebrow on where does this series wanted to end its first season. Beside that, I really like the moments shared between Monica and "Ike", it feels like Monica opening up a little and letting her guard down, which is endearing, in a way. At the end of the day, I'm curious on what the next episode would have.

We finally have the answer to those flashbacks that Monica had in prior episodes. I really like this, even though I know this will be a minor plotline, but the immense growth potential that Monica would have is something I want to witness. The hook is here, I just hope Monica and the writers would execute it well later down the line. Even so, after seeing it, I understand how Bernie felt on that cloudy/rainy scene. But at the same time, as we all know, Monica isn't the best at communication. So honestly, I don't know how this plotline will end like.

The aftermath of the previous episode. As I said before, the author and animators really knows how to set a scene to make a viewer to feel how they wanted to, which is great. The animation during that scene with Casey was great, we really felt how Monica was feeling, even though I know it was wrong. The OST was beautiful, really complimenting the scene. We also get a little snippet on the Prince's backstory, which is neat. But that last scene was the one that kind of broke me, maybe after seeing how much what happened in the previous episode had affected Monica, hearing her apologizing was the nail in the coffin to make sure I was saddened after this episode.

This was such a good episode! I never thought of this twist, and that genuinely shocked me. To be fair, it does feel like it came out of left field and the pacing of it was quite fast, but I do appreciate the writer for this plotline. I was hoping for this type of plotline to have a longer pace in order for us to feel it brew or at least to guess it, in a way. The magic in this anime never disappoint, the animation was really good and I like how there's an additional rule to it too, with what Monica did.

dvinterVerifiedEP 6

As I had said in my review on the previous episode, it seemed that this anime will take the plot into a more slice-of-life route. Not that it's bad, but I do understand if some people dislike this because of what it has shown us in the beginning. But even so, I do like the author kept Monica slowly developing, even with this plot change, it was really palpable during the tea scene, which was nice seeing her finally out with the word 'friend'. This episode is enjoyable, calm and very laid back.

This is such a great episode, as we get to see how capable Monica really is, and at the same time dig deeper into what this mission was really about. To be fair, I thought the mystery about this plotline would've hold out until half of the season, but this conclusion is good too. I do enjoy that they make sure the plot won't get stale by injecting more mystery too. The display of the magic is fun to see as well, I hope we'll be seeing more in the future. And please, I need to see more Isabelle, our cute little villainess!

I feel like the plot is moving a bit slow for a 13 episode show. This is not bad per se, and I really like that the show is taking its time on characters, but I also understand if some people dislike this. We do get a great progress after what Monica had found in this episode, but I think the main focus is still on Monica's character. We get scenes like when Monica having to force herself to speak up, or even at the end with her and Cyril. Of course, I also like how we get bits and pieces of Monica's past and not an entire section of flashback, weaving it into the story as we go.

dvinterVerifiedEP 2

I usually dislike the stuttering stereotype of a shy girl, but something about Monica endeared me to her. This is just an observation of mine, but Monica does feel like someone with social anxiety, and not just for the reason to be cute either. This can be seen with her wanting to socialize, but couldn't, like her scene with Lana, in which she overthinks to drive it home. I really like how the story is going, not only with the mystery that we slowly get to know, with the Prince's problem, but we also see Monica slowly growing.

dvinterVerifiedEP 1

The first episode of The Silent Witch. The premise is clear, with why Monica can do what she does in the world she lives in. And the plot seemed to be clear from the get go, with Louis explaining it to Monica directly. I really like how clear cut everything is. The animation is really good too, especially because this is a magic centric anime, so my expectation is quite high. Overall a really good beginning! (I alrealy know, my favorite character would be Isabelle)
