KAIJU GIRL CARAMELISE HAS NO VOTE THIS WEEK
Synopsis
Kuroe Akaishi is a quiet high school girl who literally turns into a giant monster when she gets embarrassed. That's the premise, and it's exactly as chaotic as it sounds. She's spent most of her life keeping to herself, managing this bizarre condition by just... not interacting with people. Problem is, Arata Minami, the popular, genuinely nice guy in her class: starts paying attention to her. And the more her heart races around him, the harder it gets to keep the kaiju inside from breaking out. This is a romance where the usual "my heart is pounding" trope gets taken to its most absurd, literal extreme. LIDENFILMS is adapting the seinen manga for a 2026 TV series, and the source material has this really specific charm, but it's tender and awkward and then suddenly there's a building-sized monster involved. The humor comes from how earnestly it treats Kuroe's feelings even when things go completely off the rails. At its core, it's a story about self-acceptance and letting someone see the worst, weirdest parts of you. If you liked My Monster Secret's approach to supernatural rom-com secrets, or the slow-burn warmth of Kimi ni Todoke where a shy girl gradually opens up, this hits a similar nerve but with way more property damage. Toradora fans who want something with a fresh supernatural twist should keep this one on their radar too.

nice
So happy to see this anime
I actually think Minami walking away was a fair reaction. From his point of view some huge guy is hugging his girlfriend at night while a crowd watches and they even bumped into each other awkwardly before this. Kuroe's not the only one with insecurities here he clearly thought he ruined things last time too. The real villain is that producer dropping Shinji in front of actresses like bait and the actress wrapping her arms around him on set. I just want these two kids to talk for five minutes without someone interrupting. That rooftop scene with Manatsu and Ruri was the emotional core though them telling Kuroe she has the same heart as Harugon regardless of her body made me tear up
Okay can we talk about that Akai thing at the end. That kaiju showed up with zero warning and now we're switching from romance drama back to monster action. Also shoutout to Manatsu and Ruri for actually being good friends this episode instead of just comedic relief
Every romcom has that one breakup episode that makes you want to throw your phone and this is it. Kuroe's lizard brain made her run instead of fight for what she wanted. Her calling herself unworthy next to Minami broke me because she's so wrong about that
Her scream at the end sent chills through my whole body. That roar was not just anger it was three episodes of bottled up pain coming out all at once. Hikari Senga deserves every award for that performance
I can't believe they played Minecraft in this episode that caught me so off guard. Also Daichi hugging Kuroe to hide her scales was the purest thing and now that same moment ruined everything with Minami. This show loves hurting us
The switch to casual speech with Daichi was such a tiny detail but it said everything. Kuroe never dropped keigo with anyone before. That kid unlocked her big sister mode and now I want a whole spin-off of just those two hanging out
That moment where Kuroe walks past the glowing billboard of Minami while she's half-transformed hit me harder than the whole breakup scene. Two different worlds in one shot. LIDEN FILMS knew exactly what they were doing there
Daichi being a 5th grader made me do a double take. That kid is built like a college athlete. But honestly his whole pure-hearted acceptance of Kuroe was the best part of this episode while Shinji just stood there fumbling the bag

Nao pointing that gun at Kotaro for the whole series to protect her kids is wild. I get she's a mother but that reveal about the sibling eggs and Kuroe being born from one flipped everything. The red dragon taking off toward Tokyo was a gut punch
The balcony scene had me wheezing. Girl really nuked the Sumida River because another woman touched her man and then told Shinji it was fireworks. The audacity. That heartbeat sound effect carrying the whole joke is exactly why I watch this
I didn't sign up for a kaiju versus kaiju finale but here we are. The red dragon baby hatched and is heading to Tokyo while Kuroe is still crying over a guy on TV. Also Tekko saw her beam so now she's being blackmailed by a possible human-form kaiju. This show took a hard left turn and I'm honestly here for it
That jealousy beam shot was the best thing this show has done. She literally barfed out her anxiety and it looked gorgeous. Also Tekko picking her up like a sack of potatoes then getting flying-kicked to the ground cracked me up. He got what he deserved
Harugon might be a giant monster but Kuroe's imposter syndrome is the real threat to Tokyo. That combo of her hearing Shinji was near a gorgeous actress and immediately firing a beam into the river was peak comedy and heartbreak at once. Also that island reveal changed everything about this show
Kuroe trying to swallow her jealousy and basically choking on it was so relatable I had to pause. And then Shinji hugs the dog instead of her and she melts. He really is a green flag but her insecurity is the actual final boss here
Rairi y su cambio inesperado fue muy gracioso y dulce. Éste ha sido el mejor capitulo hasta el momento
Capítulo sumamente cursi, pero adorable y con momentos divertidos del nuevo personaje que aporta un aire fresco a la historia
That night sky scene with the winged kaiju silhouetted against the full moon might be the best visual this show has ever done. Then the ending with Kuroe remembering her mother's warning about love brought it all back down to earth. Painful and gorgeous
