Synopsis
Built to be one of the most powerful combat androids ever created, Mahoro Andou exists to protect Earth from alien invaders. She's also running out of time, literally. With less than 400 days of operational life remaining, she makes a quiet decision: retire from the battlefield and spend whatever time she has left doing something ordinary. That something turns out to be housekeeping for Suguru Misato, a high school kid rattling around alone in a house way too big for one person after losing his parents. The maid uniform is genuine. The combat capabilities underneath are also genuine, and they have a way of surfacing when things get complicated. What follows is a TV series that commits to both sides of that setup: the warm, low-stakes domestic comedy of Mahoro figuring out how to cook and fold laundry, and the quieter emotional weight of a character counting down her remaining days while choosing not to waste them. It's produced by Gainax and Shaft, and that combination shows in how the show can be genuinely funny one moment and unexpectedly sincere the next. If you enjoyed the android-companion dynamic in Chobits or Steel Angel Kurumi, this covers similar ground but leans harder into the emotional undercurrent. It's not trying to be profound. it's a romantic comedy with a sci-fi premise, but the premise gives it a gentle melancholy that keeps it from feeling disposable.

What a great ending for this adventure, I'm definitely diving into season 2 right away. Mahoro really just wants a normal and calm life, despite all she had to endure during the war she handles everything with an unbreakable heart and a gentle smile. The last part really drove me to tears, this anime is a must watch for any retro anime fan.
We finally get more lore regarding Saint as well as the war between humans and aliens. The final battle for Mahoro has begun, and now that we know about her past it feels heavier than their confrontation a couple episodes ago. The animation is pretty good too.
An action packed episode about Mahoro's life as a Vesper combat android, makes you wish we could get a prequel series about it. Even with the setting of the episode being in the middle of an alien war we still get gags and fanservice as usual, it cannot be understated how good this anime is at switching its tone and pacing.
It's very sweet seeing both Mahoro and Suguru being awkward and cute during their sudden date, although this episode would've been so much better without Shikijo sensei wasn't in it, as usual. The scene under the bridge was a massive let down tho, I know anime protagonists are usually dumb but this was just irritating.
Mahoro's backstory is brutal, this episode takes a more serious approach taking us directly inside of Mahoro's fears and doubts. I wasn't expecting the show to take a negative stance at how popular the BL genre had gotten in anime and manga, but I guess that's how things worked back in 2001. The entire show would be so much better if Shikijo sensei didn't exist.
Mahoro reminiscing about her high school life during a fight is so heartbreaking and heart warming. We get to see how much Suguru cares for Mahoro. I am so glad it has gotten this far between them and they get to be together for some time. So romantic
The transition between a normal high school anime to fully going to combat is insane just for Mahoro. i feel so bad about the way Mahoro left Suguru but it was for the best and I am hoping since the anime is about to end that they both receive a happy ending!
This is a look in the past episode. We get to learn a lot about Commander Misato and Mahoro. The transition from full on combat robot to a normal human life is really hard for Mahoro. I think what makes Mahoro great is that she is empathetic.
Aww, I really feel for Mahoro. It is so great to see her and Suguru finally opening up to each other properly. Seeing Mahoro and Suguru connect on a real, human level is amazing. It makes the whole situation way more emotional knowing they are running out of time but watching them get closer like this is definitely worth it.
A chilled episode, I am kinda happy that Misato cares for Mahoro that mouch to find out what's troubling her and also that he trusts her. Their relationship has definitely improved.
Enjoyed this episode, we got a new character woo and there was more action in this episode. I wish Suguru and Mahoro were honest with each other so their friendship/relationship could draw.
Time for a new character to join the show, he's the textbook definition of a late 90s anime ikemen. There's some really deep lore regarding the alien war, Vesper and Saint. The battle animation is spectacular in this episode, every cell has such a lively bloom to it, you can tell the production team was very passionate for these kind of scenes.
I'm really glad we're getting more alien action as well as glimpses of the Vesper headquarters. This episode might be hard to get into if you're not a fan of very heavily japanese cultural events. I really like how the slice of life bits mix well with the heavier moments . I hate Shikijo sensei so much.
I really like the ambience of this show, it's nostalgic and warm while being packed with action and ecchi. The way heartfelt moments are handled is great, specially how it manages to mix them with gags. This might be the best episode so far
