Land of the Lustrous
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Crystalline warriors battling ethereal moon invaders sounds weird, but stay with me. In a far-future world where humanity is long gone, crystalline beings called the Lustrous live under constant attack from the Lunarians, ethereal creatures who want to shatter them and use their bodies as jewelry. Each Lustrous is a living gemstone with abilities tied to their mineral properties, which is a genuinely clever power system. The story follows Phosphophyllite, the youngest and most brittle of them all. Phos desperately wants to fight but is too fragile, so they get stuck writing an encyclopedia instead. It's during this busywork that Phos meets Cinnabar, another outcast whose toxic body forces them into isolation, and Phos makes a quiet promise to find them both a real purpose. What starts as a melancholic slice-of-life gradually pulls you into something much heavier: questions about identity, self-worth, and what it means to change when you're supposed to be eternal. The 3D CGI by Studio Orange is genuinely stunning here; the way light refracts through the characters during fight scenes is unlike anything else in the medium. The soundtrack is haunting in the best way. If you liked the unsettling beauty of Made in Abyss or the way Madoka Magica slowly peels back its cheerful surface to reveal something darker, this 12-episode TV series hits a similar nerve. It's a quiet devastation kind of show, and the manga goes even further.

Show should have started here somehow. The past episodes are only trying to hammer people not liking phos and small story telling, atleast with this episode there's actual story that's moving forward.
It's so hard to relate to anything as the show is so...imaginary. I'm sure if Pixar is doing this they would find a better way to connect with the audience and hook us at the very beginning.
It's not as dizzy as I thought it would be from what other's describe it as. Although the story itself is....well has yet to prove itself to me. very...special I would say.
This episode futher demonstrates the character dynamics between Phos and the other gems, and how the other gems interact with eachother. We learn about Diamond, and intrestingly enough all the gems treat Phos like a kid, and that's the same way Bortz treats Diamond.
Very engaging first episode. Loved the colours and the CGI was good. If you don't like the anime after this episode you can drop it. If you dont like the anime for some reason because of Phos you should keep watching, she does a lot of introspection throughout the anime.
The episode is calm for a season finale. Not too much happened. It's like going back to the start with a switch in character between Phos and Cinnabar. I like it but there are just too many unknowns which is understandable since it's supposedly just the first season.
Now that was definitely a fuwa fuwa episode. Lol Though it's very suspicious, given the title of the episode too. The last scene is too much of a cliffhanger that you'd want to know more of who that is.
You can't get used to the fight scenes even more now that there's a hide-and-seek element for this episode. The way the camera moves perfectly blends with the 3D CGI animation. You need to read between the lines to understand Bort's actions.
The changes really amped up Phos. But it really is saddening since the loss reflects in Phos eyes though it somehow shows that he matured from the previous episodes.
I'm not really sure if that was a power-up or another burden, but not knowing makes you want to watch the next episode. Antarcticite has a great character for giving it his all during the fight.
For me, the main character energy of Phos really does show off in the episode since he was allowed by Kongo-sensei. It's another refreshing episode since there's a new environment to explore and new character to meet.
This episode really picks your interest regarding to "Humans" because of Kongo Sensei's reaction. It also blends the expectation vs. reality experience to Phos during battle that makes you disappointed of him.
Definitely heartbreaking though Phos' attitude and character doesn't break easily and that's what I like. Another good relationship connection between Phos and Cinnabar.
Nani?! The explanation of the lore is really good and another mystery is somehow being discovered. Then that thing happened. Really? NANI?! Lol
The running animation of Diamond really caught my eye. It was very well made that makes you feel you are running too. This episode really brings the good character of Diamond.
Now we see a glimpse of how the world and lore began. Then going back to the characters that somehow seems to be the strongest (since they're the hardest) and seeing their weakness with the new type of enemy.
For me, this anime has a unique lore. The blend of the 3D CGI animation looks good to the world and characters and it's scientific nature makes you want to watch it and learn the characters abilities. Episode 1 is engaging which makes you want for the main character to develop.
What a painful way to end a season, such a strong cliffhanger although it is a good finale though. The finale continues Phos’s journey as she begins to uncover the truth behind Sensei’s connection to the Lunarians. The interactions, especially between Phos and Padparadscha, carry a warm yet melancholic ‘mentor-like’ dynamic. It also strengthens the evolving bond between Phos and Cinnabar, hinting at something bigger ahead. Overall, it’s a finale that raises more questions than answers and leaves a strong sense of anticipation for what’s next. Now I really need a new season. 😭
The episode starts off surprisingly funny and cute, especially with the interactions between the gems and the Lunarian dog. However, it soon shifts its focus to Phos as she grapples with the truth she has uncovered. There’s a lingering question of how this revelation will affect her character moving forward. With a subtle hint of a new character twist, it sets up intriguing possibilities for the final episode.
This episode features one of the most visually spectacular action sequences of the season, highlighted by the intense battle between Bortz and Phos against a new type of Lunarians. Beyond the action, it’s a deeply emotional episode that puts the bond between Diamond and Bortz under serious strain. With new threats emerging and the stakes higher than ever, it builds a powerful sense of tension heading into the final two episodes.
