Elegy for the Henchmen: Fist of the North Star Part 2

Nobu has a simple goal: a job. In a wasteland where civilization has collapsed and dangerous warlords rule everything, that's already a rough starting point. Through a combination of bad luck and worse judgment, he ends up enlisted in Raoh's Army — the most feared military force in the post-apocalyptic world — as a completely expendable foot soldier. You know the type: the nameless goons who get punched through walls in the original Fist of the North Star and never get thought about again. This show is entirely about those guys. Nobu and his fellow low-ranking soldiers are just trying to survive their shifts without getting obliterated by some legendary warrior passing through. The grim, brutal setting of the classic series is still there, but the camera has swung all the way to the bottom of the food chain, and it turns out that perspective is genuinely funny. Episodes run around four minutes each, so it moves fast and never overstays a joke. The motion comic visual style gives it a slightly offbeat look that works well for the comedic timing. If you liked Gintama's approach of wringing absurdist humor out of a serious fictional universe, or the way One Punch Man reframes heroism from an unexpected angle, this operates in similar territory. It does not require deep knowledge of Fist of the North Star to follow along, though fans of the original will catch extra layers in the parody.
