Gintama. Slip Arc offers consistent good laughs, making it a reliable comedic pick-me-up for viewers seeking a brief, enjoyable anime experience.

📖 SYNOPSIS

Having piled on arc after arc of increasingly heavy drama and world-shaking revelations, Gintama hit pause and said "remember when this was a comedy?" That's Porori-hen in a nutshell — a 13-episode TV series that rewinds back to the Yorozuya trio just doing odd jobs in an Edo where aliens run convenience stores and samurai can't carry swords anymore. Gintoki Sakata, a lazy silver-haired ronin with a strawberry milk addiction, his straight-man apprentice Shinpachi, and Kagura, a deceptively cute alien girl who can bench-press a car, stumble through gigs that spiral into absurd chaos. Early on, Kagura's father Umibouzu — a legendary alien hunter — shows up furious because he thinks his daughter has a boyfriend, and naturally blames Gintoki for being a terrible guardian. It's the kind of setup where a family argument turns into city-wide destruction. The humor here runs on parodies of other anime, fourth-wall breaks, and jokes that have no business landing as hard as they do. If you enjoyed the comedic chaos of Sket Dance or the deadpan absurdity of Daily Lives of High School Boys, this is that energy cranked up with samurai swords and alien invasions. Fans of Hinamatsuri's mix of heart and comedy will also find something to like. You don't need to have watched every Gintama arc to enjoy this — it's practically designed as a breather — but longtime fans get the most out of the callbacks.

✨ MUST WATCH IF...

You miss Yorozuya doing odd jobs — this season's 13 episodes return to classic comedy roots
Umibouzu's overprotective-dad energy clashing with Gintoki sounds like a good time to you
You love Gintama's rapid-fire parodies and absurd gag humor pushed to even wilder extremes
You need a breather between the heavy Rakuyou arc and whatever serious stuff comes next

❌ SKIP IF...

You want the main Tendoshuu and Naraku storyline to actually move forward this season
Standalone comedy episodes with minimal plot feel like filler — that's basically all 13 episodes here
You're new to Gintama — character references and callbacks won't land without prior seasons
