Pop Team Epic
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Poputepipikku turns absurdist comedy up to eleven with its pop culture references and surreal hilarity. With two bonafide high school girl protagonists—the short and exceptionally quick to anger Popuko, and the tall and unshakably calm Pipimi—they throw genres against the wall and don't wait to see what sticks. Parody is interlaced with drama, action, crudeness, and the show's overarching goal—to become a real anime.

Yesss more of the lil felt versions of them. Anyways this is def a finale where they wrap up an overarching plot that wasn't there before lol. Also Shouta Aoi just being there took me out.
The opening changed again lol. You never rlly know what ur gonna get with this show. Also kind of cool how the opening segment referenced a past bob epic team segment. Usually its the other way around. Main joke this episode is parodying horror movies.
Wait the artstyle of the segment before the intro was rlly nice. The little soccer segment poking fun at sports anime was fun. Main segment was pretty funny tho the references were lost on me tbh.
Heartwarming, Popuko and Pipimi made such a positive impact on the future mayor of New York City's life despite not acknowledging his presence even once <3. It was pretty funny though I dont really have much to say abt the other segments.
The faces Pipimi and Popuko make after licking that lemon was pretty funny. The main joke this episode is parodying yakuza/gangster films.
The live recording section with the notebook was actually pretty cool and creative. Also thanks to this episode I now know what a nutria is (its a rodent).
The main shogi segment was pretty funny. Also ig Pop Team Cooking is gonna be a reoccurring segment? The last one was funnier than this episode's tbh.
So that main segment took an unexpected somewhat dark turn. I think I enjoy the Bob Epic Team segments more despite the very ugly artstyle.
Yea that "Let's Groove" parody is gonna be stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Also surprised that there was a reference to "Wacky Races" of all things. Didn't know they knew ball like that.
Return of the french section with no subtitles at first lol. The blanket joke at the start was pretty relatable ngl.
The actual opening goes pretty hard ngl. The main part of the episode's whole gag was that it was unfinished to the point where we actually see the voice actors. Pretty funny.
First episode is bait lol. This show is a short sketch comedy that moves fast. Also the episode is only abt ~12 minutes it just has one version with male voices and one version with female voices. The animation doesn't change but the dialogue sometimes does.
It certainly doesn't feel like a season finale. The parody of villains babbling nonsense but sounding "evil" is understandable... yeah, yeah, nothing remarkable... SHOUTA AOI!?!??! How nice, there's a second season. But I think I'll pass.
Okay, this time we have a parody of horror movies, but it's not that great. It's better to watch this part in the second half of the anime, with the commentary from the guy I don't know. I suspect he must be known in Japan because of his connection to horror films. Could he be a director? By the way, what's with the fake anime in the final trailers? I think it's the only part that makes me want to keep watching this anime.
Was the beginning a diss aimed at Studio Ghibli? We won't tolerate something like that in this house. (Just my speculation.) The entire episode is dominated by a funny parody of "Case Closed." And it really didn't bother me at all. Was that the original voice actor for Inspector Megure? I googled him, and it sure was. Awesome!
That was certainly a good parody of 80s and 90s Hollywood movies. Otherwise, I can't highlight anything else about the episode. None of the recurring segments were particularly engaging, nor were there any animation techniques striking enough to capture my attention.
In this episode, the only thing I can highlight is the sand animation segment, and it's not even very long. Overall, the jokes are on par with previous episodes. Not great, not terrible. The hair joke did make me laugh, though.
The anime is quite self-aware that it's not for everyone, and I respect that. I'll still criticize it harshly, though. But honestly, this episode made me laugh way more than the previous ones; the Hellshake Yano segment was AWESOME. More of that, please! Yay, Undertale reference!
The episode is almost entirely taken up by a shogi joke, and you know what? I actually liked it, more than the rest of the shorter jokes. As always, the other half of the episode is pure filler.
You know what? I miss when they changed drastically the animation styles between jokes. That way, even if the joke isn't funny, it's at least interesting to watch. By the way, the anime itself tells you not to take it seriously, so you can skip the second half of the episode. Or, you can choose which half you prefer to watch.
