Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Once a hot springs inn, now a boarding house with extraordinarily cheap rent, Yuragi-sou is virtually uninhabited save for a few peculiar residents. As rumor has it, it is haunted by a vile ghost which scares away all potential tenants. Therefore, it is the perfect refuge for Fuyuzora Kogarashi—a broke, homeless psychic seeking an affordable roof to stay under and ghosts to exorcise. Kogarashi prepares for a face-off against the ghost, only to find out it is not as malicious as the rumors made it out to be. Instead, it is the ghost of a beautiful, silver-haired girl whose only recollection of her life before death is her name: Yuuna. Even more baffling is that the other tenants of Yuragi-sou not only are able to see Yuuna as well, but each has their own supernatural ability. Amidst the chaos caused by his quirky fellow residents, Kogarashi attempts to uncover the regret that keeps Yuuna anchored to the world of the living, lest she become an evil spirit sentenced to spend her afterlife in hell.

Going into Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs, I knew exactly what I was signing up for. The title and marketing scream generic fanservice vehicle, and the show definitely delivers on that front. But somehow, it completely won me over and ended up being one of my favorite comfort-food watches in the genre. What actually sells the whole thing is Kogarashi. I am so chronically exhausted by harem protagonists who spend every episode as a squeamish, screaming, blushing mess stumbling into accidents. Kogarashi is the exact opposite: an absolute chad. He's built like a tank, handles spirits with literal bare-handed brawling, and actually has a backbone. Watching a lead who has agency, isn't totally dense, and calls people out on their nonsense makes the standard harem setup infinitely more tolerable. Yuuna herself also carries the emotional weight of the show so well. Sure, she’s there for the cute and bubbly ghost gags, but her amnesia and the mystery behind why she can't move on actually give her character real heart. Whenever the show slows down past the constant slapstick, you genuinely just want to protect her. The rest of the Yuragi Inn crew—especially Sagiri and her hilarious chuunibyou ninja act—fill out that chaotic found-family vibe perfectly. That said, let's not pretend the show is a masterpiece, because the flaws are right out in the open. The fanservice is relentless. Every single ecchi trope in the book is here, and while I don't mind when a series fully commits to its identity, it definitely goes too far sometimes. There were multiple moments where I was actually getting invested in the supernatural lore or a character beat, only for the anime to slam the breaks on for yet another predictable bath-house gag. The writing is wildly inconsistent, too. The first half leans way too hard into episodic filler, and because it's a standard single-season run, the actual plot regarding Yuuna's past gets crammed into a rushed, abrupt ending that leaves things totally open-ended. Visually, the studio clearly spent the bulk of the budget making sure the fanservice looked polished, while background details and action scenes can occasionally feel a bit stiff. Is it a deep, groundbreaking supernatural thriller? Absolutely not. But if you walk in expecting a masterclass in classic, unapologetic ecchi comedy with an elite protagonist and a genuinely wholesome found-family atmosphere, it's an absolute blast. Just turn your brain off, skip the high-minded expectations, and enjoy the ride.
Oh nice
The mandatory beach episode to wrap things up! The gang going to Okinawa is a fun setting change. Helping the cliff ghost reunite with her lover was surprisingly wholesome for a finale. Kogarashi promising to make Yuuna happy is a nice wrap-up for the series.
The love potion trope strikes again lol! Sagiri accidentally drinking it and going completely feral on Kogarashi was hilarious. Her waking up and locking herself in her room out of embarrassment was a great payoff. Classic harem antics.
Nonko’s drunk older sister vibe is always fun, but it's nice to see her get a bit more screen time. The lore behind her oni powers is surprisingly neat. The show is still mostly ecchi trash, but I appreciate them trying to flesh out the cast!
The mandatory school event episode! Standard rom-com territory with a supernatural twist. Seeing everyone out of their usual outfits is cool, and the interactions between the harem members are getting a bit more competitive. It's a fun distraction episode.
Chisaki visiting the Yuragi Inn is exactly the disaster you’d expect lol. Her trying to comprehend all the supernatural madness while pretending everything is totally normal is comedy gold. Definitely one of the more fun episodes of the season!
Typical supernatural slice-of-life stuff this time around. The pacing is a bit slow and it relies heavily on the same gags we've seen in the first few episodes. An okayish episode, but Yuuna's wholesome moments kind of save it from being totally boring.
Oboro shows up and the plot just goes completely off the rails hahaha. A dragon god aggressively demanding Kogarashi's babies is peak ecchi nonsense. The sheer chaos she brings to the boarding house is actually pretty funny to watch unfold.
We get to see Sagiri actually doing her demon-slaying ninja job here. Her tsundere energy is off the charts in this one lol. The action scenes are surprisingly okay for a show that's 90% fanservice. Gives the plot a little bit of flavor!
Yaya finally gets some spotlight! The cat-girl mannerisms are super cute and play well into the comedy. It's nice to see Kogarashi actually being useful and helping the residents with their issues rather than just being a punching bag. A solid, chill episode.
Yuuna deciding to follow him to high school is a classic trope. Chisaki's introduction adds a much-needed "normal" girl to the crazy supernatural harem. The misunderstandings in the classroom were pretty hilarious lol. Not peak comedy, but it has its moments.
The poltergeist powers activating while Yuuna sleeps is just an excuse for more crazy situations hahaha. The hot spring ping pong match was weirdly intense though. The residents revealing their true identities is a fun dynamic shift. Still pretty mid, but entertaining enough if you just turn your brain off.
I genuinely didn't know this was an ecchi anime going into it lol. Kogarashi just wanting a cheap room and ending up with a ghost waifu is classic. The ghost mechanics are heavily used for fanservice right out of the gate. I generally find this anime mid, but the character designs are great and the humor lands okay.
Yes, that felt incomplete, it seems like they were gunning for continuation (which hopefully materializes), but otherwise they should have hinted the viewers a bit about that important piece of lore. But then again, I admit that the show's strength lies in its fairly well written characters and the friendship they formed throughout the series. It's what makes it standout beyond the barrage of fanservice they gave us in its runtime. The animation was decent, the music was acceptabls, not the most technically impressive I've seen, just passable enough. Would I recommend this though? Just for giving us a decent relationshp in a genre like this, sure. But if you find explicit content to be a turn off, then it's a pass for you.
That was a strange idea for a penultimate episode, but I guess it's still progress in a way. But still, it was quite amusing and funny, especially in the second part. So there is no build up for the finale? They're gambling hard then, it seems that they are going to stick to their guns until the end of the series. Hopefully they can cook up something nice for the series' conclusion.
Well, who knew that this episode would go this way? It started out seemingly like a filler episode, and then became some sort of mini-arc in itself. That first half had its moments of humor mixed with all the fanservice stuff, you know, the usual in this type of genre. But things start to get a little weird when the characters started pointing out the strangeness of their situation. This type of suspense is what you get viewers to tune in and I for one would like to see what this is all about next time.
This felt more like a breather episode after the conclusion of our previous mini-arc. That doesn't mean it isn't entertaining in its own right. Nice to see someone experiencing the insanity of the setting from an outsider's perspective. They also get to know each other in a normal "human" way that makes it quite endearing, if you can get past the fanservice that is. Anyways, we're almost at the finale, ket's see what comes up for the climax of the series.
This finale doesn't really feel like a finale at all. Instead of wrapping things up, it introduces even more mystery surrounding Yuna without offering any real resolution, which is disappointing since the anime never received another season. The fanservice is toned down compared to previous episodes, but that alone isn't enough to make for a satisfying ending. Overall, it was a rather weak finale.
I really liked how Kogarashi handled the situation in the first half of the episode, and it was nice to see his classmates gradually start accepting him. Aside from that, it's another fanservice-heavy episode that focused on Sagiri, but it was still enjoyable. I really bad for Yaya, she rarely have any spotlight in this anime.
