Synopsis
With cold precision and zero emotional attachment — by design — Yashiro runs a yakuza group. He's a masochist who keeps every relationship purely physical, because the one time he actually fell for someone, it wrecked him. That's the damage you're working with before the story even starts. Then his boss hands him a new bodyguard: Doumeki, a quiet, recently released ex-con with a habit of staring at Yashiro like he's trying to solve a puzzle. Yashiro finds him useless for his usual purposes — Doumeki is impotent, which kills the dynamic Yashiro usually relies on to keep people at arm's length. So now he's stuck with someone he can't easily dismiss, who watches him too carefully and doesn't play by the rules Yashiro set up to protect himself. The whole thing unfolds against a gritty yakuza backdrop that's more introspective than action-heavy — think slow tension, not gunfights. The animation from GRIZZLY captures that atmosphere well, and the character writing goes deeper than the genre usually bothers to. If you've seen Ai no Kusabi and appreciated how it used power dynamics to tell an emotionally heavy story, this hits similar notes but with more psychological nuance. Fans of Junjou Romantica who want something moodier and more mature will find a lot here. It's a single movie adapted from the manga, and it doesn't rush. Give it your full attention.
