Synopsis
Hairi Takahara, reeling from a personal crisis he'd rather not talk about, heads to a quiet island in the Seto Inland Sea to sort through his late grandmother's belongings. What starts as a simple errand turns into an entire summer spent on Torishirojima — meeting locals, chasing island legends, and slowly confronting the things he came there to forget. The first person who really catches his attention is Shiroha Naruse, a quiet girl he finds at the school pool who seems to carry her own weight of unspoken history. Then there's Ao, who's obsessed with the island's folklore, Kamome, who's dead serious about finding a pirate ship, and Tsumugi, a younger girl figuring out who she even wants to be. This is a Key visual novel adaptation through and through — if you've been through Clannad or Air, you already know the emotional playbook: slow-building connections, bittersweet nostalgia, and a gut punch waiting somewhere down the line. Studio feel. handles the animation across four compilation movies, and they really lean into the island setting — golden sunsets, cicadas, the whole summer atmosphere thing. It's less about plot twists and more about sitting with these characters as they work through memory, loss, and what it means to hold onto something fleeting. Fans of The Aquatope on White Sand will appreciate the coastal setting and contemplative pacing. Just don't go in expecting action — this one's meant to be felt, not rushed.
