Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day

Every episode is full of emotion, nostalgia, and friendship. The music? Absolutely beautiful. 🎶 By the last episode, you’ll probably cry buckets

Anohana is the quintessential "cry anime" that became the template for 2010s emotional drama. Childhood friends drift apart after a girl drowns, her ghost comes back to make them reunite, everyone cries at the end. That said, Mari Okada's script does differentiate the five characters' grief responses well enough that they don't feel completely interchangeable, the summer nostalgia aesthetic (fireworks, cicadas, rivers) hits the right notes, and the emotional payoff actually lands despite the shortcuts. There is no denying it, it's one of the best in the genre regardless.

If you have reached this episode, then congratulations and thank you. I couldn't stop being emotional the entire time. What a heavy burden this kids has brought inside their minds all this time. I just want to hug them.

Finally, Tsuruko got highlighted. I was waiting for her moment of truth and now I am so happy we got to see her own moment too. This episode is also very joyful in my opinion.

I was having different emotions every five minutes. Things got better from the last episode. I am afraid there will be more sad scenes in the next one. Powerful pivotal point in the plot for all the characters.

Everyone is on their breaking point. At first I thought everything was going really well, but this episode is perfect placement for real conflict. Deep down they really care for each other. I can't stop watching this.

I love that the group relationship is getting warmer. We got to see how serious Jintan is in terms of Menma's unknown wish. I think nobody shouldn't miss this episode especially for the twist in the end. It does raise a lot of questions.

Jintan is the man. What a great friend. Again, another episode with so many feelings. I laughed, cried and invested to these guys. I wonder if I start again with the first episode, I might see how different Jintan would be. His development is so good.

Yukiatsu, Anjo and Poppo are got highlighted this episode. While last episode had made me laugh at him, Yukiatsu actually made me shed a tear for him. Very important part of the plot especially about Menma.

While I laughed with Yukiatsu reveal, there is actually a sadder undertone to it. People really react to grief in different ways. This episodes really teaches that.

I am happy that we get to see more about Jintan's life this episode. This deepens his character development even more and how it impacted his interactions with Menma. Never skip this one.

What I wouldn't give for a genuine friend like Poppo. Honestly his presence made this episode brighter all of the sudden. While the plot got deeper, we still can enjoy how wholesome their friendship is, or used to be.

It was beautiful and so emotional. Combined with the BGM, it was perfect it really made me cry. Their game ended felt somewhat overwhelming, and emotions just poured out in this episode, it hit so hard. A 10/10 tearjerker!

I wasn’t expecting this!! It made me tear up, my heart ached during this episode, and the BGM made it even more of a tearjerker. They gave their best in everything just for Menma, but still… well, you should just watch it yourself. This is so good.

This episode gives you mixed emotions. I feel like something doesn’t quite fit, it’s kind of messy. They didn’t really put much thought into what Menma’s wish truly was.. They just pushed through with what they saw in the drawing. Yukiatsu was really cool in this episode.

It’s starting to get very emotional again. I thought her mother was just feeling empty, but it’s actually the other way around. The whole group gets into their first fight and misunderstanding after reuniting.. I hope they don’t fall apart again. 💔

Jintan’s efforts were so admirable, and the whole group is now willing to take part in fulfilling Menma’s wish, which was very touching. But seriously!? That cliffhanger was so unexpected, who would’ve thought she was the one thinking everyone’s efforts were a joke!

When their conversation got seriously emotional, It’s kind of nice to see the group getting closer each episode and helping to search for her wish. I hope to see more emotional episodes after this one.

This episode is great !! it gives me mixed emotions in every scene. I’m glad they’re all getting close again because of Menma. But the final scene gave me a heartache, seeing Poppo act like that while being watched by Menma.

I’m annoyed by Yukiatsu’s jealousy towards Jintan just because Menma appears to him. He’s being very selfish since he doesn’t think about how it will affect everyone, especially their friendship. I hope that in the next episode, their problems with each other will be resolved.
