📖 SYNOPSIS

After 500 years frozen in ice, Willem Kmetsch wakes to find that humanity is gone. The surviving races live on floating islands in the sky, constantly under threat from monstrous creatures called Beasts that now roam the surface below. Willem, the last human alive, gets assigned a simple job: caretaker of a military warehouse. Except the 'weapons' stored there aren't swords or cannons — they're young girls. These Leprechauns, including a girl named Chtholly, are raised to wield ancient weapons against the Beasts, and none of them expect to come back from battle. Willem becomes something between a father figure and a broken man watching history repeat itself, knowing exactly what it costs to fight and survive when the people around you don't. This 12-episode TV series from Satelight and C2C moves at a deliberate pace, building out its world and its relationships before quietly devastating you. The romance between Willem and Chtholly is tender and earned, grounded in the reality that their time together has an expiration date. If you liked the bittersweet emotional core of Plastic Memories or the way Angel Beats! made you care about characters living on borrowed time, this one hits in similar places. It also shares that same sense of melancholy duty you find in Re:Zero, though it trades the intensity for something more quiet and reflective. Just be ready — the ending will sit with you for a while.

✨ MUST WATCH IF...

You love melancholic romance where characters know their time together is limited and fleeting
A post-apocalyptic fantasy that prioritizes quiet daily life over constant battles sounds appealing
Willem's role as a caretaker for weapon-wielding girls — with genuine emotional weight — interests you
You're fine with 12 episodes of measured, character-driven storytelling that builds to a devastating finale

❌ SKIP IF...

Non-stop action is what you want — this season is mostly emotional drama and world-building
The light novel covers way more ground, and 12 episodes only adapts the first three volumes
You'd rather skip age-gap romance dynamics between the male lead and his younger charges
