Have to admit, Ive never watched anime this old but Im anticipating the development of the story. The pacing is deliberate, allowing the sheer scale of humanity’s desperation to sink in. While the vintage animation style shows its age with minimal lip flaps, the artistic direction, iconic musical score, and mature narrative tone hold up exceptionally well. It’s a masterful setup that leaves you rooting for humanity's final stand.

It's an older anime, so don't expect modern animation or sound effects. For a series about spaceships and laser battles, the action feels a bit underwhelming, and some scenes drag on too long. That said, the story and world are interesting.

A great first episode. The pacing is a bit slow, but it does an excellent job of introducing the characters and setting up the story. The premise is also fantastic, and I can imagine it was quite groundbreaking for its time. As for the animation, it's about what you'd expect from a 1970s anime, but it still has a lot of charm and was impressive by the standards of its era.
