Synopsis
At 42 years old, Mitsutaka Oji has got the whole office convinced he's the epitome of cool professionalism. Sharp suits, calm demeanor, the kind of guy everyone respects. What nobody knows is that this man is absolutely obsessed with cute things — specifically a character called Pug Taro. His apartment is basically a shrine to adorable merchandise, and he's been keeping this side of himself locked down tight for years. Then his nephew Masumi moves in with him, and suddenly Oji's carefully maintained double life is one accidental closet door away from falling apart. The comedy here comes from a very specific and very relatable place: the gap between who we present ourselves as and who we actually are. Watching this grown man try to maintain his dignity while sneaking Pug Taro goods into his shopping cart is the kind of low-stakes, warm humor that just works. It's not trying to be anything more than what it is — a lighthearted look at a dude who just wants to enjoy cute stuff in peace. If you liked the cozy gap-moe energy of Mr. Villain's Day Off, or the way Tokusatsu Gagaga handled an adult woman hiding her nerdy passions from coworkers, this is in that same lane. LIDENFILMS is handling the adaptation, so it should look clean. It's a chill comedy about letting yourself like what you like, and honestly, that's enough.
