Tamako Market
Oshimeter
Synopsis
There are three things Tamako Kitashirakawa cares about above all else: mochi, her family's little mochi shop, and the tight-knit shopping district she's grown up in. Her life is warm, routine, and exactly the kind of thing you'd expect from a slice-of-life show, until a round, self-important talking bird named Dera Mochimazzi crash-lands into her world, claiming he's searching for a bride for his prince. Dera eats so much mochi he gets too fat to fly, so naturally he just moves in with Tamako's family and becomes the shopping district's unofficial mascot. That's the setup, and honestly, the plot isn't really the point. This is a 12-episode TV series about hanging out: with Tamako's friends Midori and Kanna, with her childhood neighbor Mochizou (whose family runs a rival mochi shop, leading to some low-stakes dad drama), and with the whole colorful cast of shopkeepers who feel like people you actually know. Kyoto Animation made this in 2013, and you can tell: every frame of the shopping district feels lived-in and vibrant, with a soundtrack that's just effortlessly cozy. If you liked the found-family energy of K-On! or the gentle pace of Non Non Biyori, this hits that same frequency. It's the kind of show you put on after a rough day when you need something that feels like a warm blanket and a cup of tea. No stakes, no twists, just good people being good to each other.

What a great ending to a great slice of life show. I know there is a sequel movie that I'm going to love, but this show really was so wholesome and I loved seeing how the relationships between all the characters grew throughout!! 10/10 would recommend for "feel good" vibes
A lot of lore and world up this episode, especially on the prince's side. Very excited to see how things will move forward, especially after that cliffhanger!!
Power of friendship ahh episode. The Midori focus was very cute and I liked how all the characters got to pitch in, someway or another. Also...interesting ending!!
Oh man, so many ships!! We get a little bit of the parents, a little bit with Tamako, and a little bit with Anko. Shipping fuel everywhere. I loved this episode!!!
Choi has been more active with the friend group and Dera is put through a trial of sorts lol. Very cute school episode and some fashion shenanigans as well.
Team Choi all the way! I love the new character's design, and seeing Dera getting put in place is pretty funny. Pretty light-hearted episode overall and interesting ending. Team Mochizou, all the way though.
I love the random spooky vibe/ animation changes! Very cute and light-hearted episode. Kanna takes the cake this episode with all her skills and background work! Also, the plot seems to be progressing with the ending we got this episode.
Awee man, I've become a Dera fan as the episodes go on. He's just a great catalyst for all our characters getting closer together, and it's just so sweet seeing teens being teens Mochizou and Midori get into a slight conflict of sorts, but we get a very cute beach episode!
The prince meeting Dera again after such a long time had me dying lol! It's so funny! I felt so emotional and a big plot twist happens. Actually, it makes me so happy, and I'm so satisfied with the ending!
The whole market going crazy over the news about Tamako. Everyone feels so emotional and I love how everyone cares about Tamako and I feel sad for Mochizou too. I was also so shocked by the ending!
I love how everyone came together to help each other. The friendship in this episode is so genuine and wholesome. It's so touching and I was so shocked by the ending!
I really like how positive Mochizou is, he's not feeling his best, but he still happily helps Anko. He is such a gentleman! There is more drama happening in this episode and an unexpected reveal too.
It's the funniest episode so far lol. Dera is too chubby to still be called a bird lol, his expression with the background music is really hilarious! But I can feel Dera struggling is so real.
Choi is really cute with her tsundere vibe and Dera is so naughty lol. There is some drama happening and I'm so happy to see the interaction between Choi and the people in the market. I didn't expect there would be a heartbreaking moment too.
It suddenly has a horror vibe but in a funny way and I really love how the people in the market really care about each other. The ending is such a plot twist and so unexpected lol!
I'm on Mochizou's side, but poor him. He's always struggling with his feeling, and Dera is so helpful but there's a little drama happening. This episode is hard for both of them, but I love watching Dera have a nice time at the beach lol.
Anko is really a cutie pie! I'm so happy she got her feelings about festivals back. Dera is so funny, he always has me dying lol and I totally didn't expect to get it wrong about Anko's taste.
Dera not being able to fly is so chaotic and funny lol! I really like Shiori, she is so relatable and cute and the awkward moment between Tamako's dad and Yagi sensei had me crying laughing!
Love is in the air! I really liked the scene where Tamako and Mochizou talk through the string telephone, it was so cute. I also admire how much Tamako truly loves mochi and I'm glad her father finally caught the valentine's vibe at the end.
I really like this kind of anime is light and fun to watch! Dera the bird already had me laughing so much lol and Mochizou is so sweet and cool. Definitely worth watching if you're looking for something fun and easy to watch!
