Natsume's Book of Friends Season 5
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Blessed with eyes that are able to perceive the otherwise invisible youkai, Takashi Natsume hides his ability from his newfound family and friends to protect everyone's peaceful daily life. Nonetheless, Natsume never fails to show the same kindness to the benevolent youkai and happily returns their names by using the infamous Book of Friends he inherited from his late grandmother, Reiko. Meanwhile, the exorcist clan Matoba still wishes for Natsume to join their ranks due to his overwhelming gift. However, Natsume firmly rejects the clan's invitation since not all exorcists are as reasonable as his friend Shuuichi Natori, and many improperly and indiscriminately seal away every youkai in their way. Unsatisfied with Natsume's answer, Seiji Matoba blackmails Natsume into attending a grand gathering of powerful exorcist families. Natsume soon finds himself in the company of dangerous people and youkai alike. But even then, he continues to defy the exorcists' hard-handed methods and believes that peace between both worlds is possible.

Cute story
The ending is visually appealing and heart warming to watch but it left a pinch in my heart upon realizing the symbolism of the valley of flowers is like a short lived fleeting life of humans. This final ep shows how the supporting characters both human and ayakashis' love and deeply for Natsume.
The crow brought so much symbolism to Touko and Shegiru's marriage. Even without much natsume or master kitty exposure, seeing the backstory thru her pov was beautiful. Magical realism creates such a comforting feeling that makes the setting perfectly healing.
Loved that this is just another organic encounter without any connection to the book of friends... it just shows that classic natsume signature where he's always a hero to yokai and humans alike no matter what with pure wholesome and heart warming vibe.
Massive lore drops in this ep fr so expect more of flashbacks, it was wild seeing a playful unbandaged seiji and a passionate natori.Young natori gives off huge Natsume vibe. I can really tell the production got way better too, the visuals matched natori’s narration perfectly.
Tbh one of the episodes with beautiful ending imo. Natsume got to resolve the conflict without comprimising anything or anyone for once. The visuals is stunning compare to the prev eps matched with a wholesome bg music vibe.
Natsume on a charade the whole time is both stressful and funny to watch. But at least we got that classic Saiki K internal monologue though. Yokai friends really did a good dog show on him. So chaotic yet so loyal.
Wth that black shadow gave me total jump scare lol but ngl this kind of scene def hooks you right away. loved how it leaves you with mystery, loved it even more when the real message is uncovered. Yokai amused me fr on how they put so much value into something so trivial and simple to humans.
So annoying to watch that everyone's chasing Natsume for what? The lore of the Matoba clan was crammed and the climax felt rushed. But seeing how Natori protects Natsume from distance is so heart warming. Whatta a big bro of energy.
Ngl I was just as surprised as Natsume about the letter, got me so intrigued. Natsume and Natori are so in sync as tandem. Since it's only the 1st part pacing is a bit slow but def not gonna skip the next one.
