Having just binged the original 1979 Gundam and Char's Counterattack right before this, seeing how much the story and animation have evolved is honestly jaw-dropping. The space fights are fast-paced but so clean that you never lose track of what's happening on screen. The lore feels incredibly deep right from the start, and the whole premise has me totally hooked. If you like classic Universal Century stuff modernized, you're going to love this!
First episode mainly filled with set-up and world building content to let the audience know the timeline of the events about to happen since it connects to the previous works before UC 96 timeline. There's going to be a lot of babble you won't understand if you skipped those so I suggest you watch the previous series first, but overall, visual, pacing, and writing are all up there.
Before watching this anime it is mandatory to watch the previous UC titles namely Mobile Suit Gundam, Zeta, ZZ and Char's Counterattack in this order. This anime takes place 3 years after Char's Counterattack, it will assume that you know everything but for those who have watched the previous titles expect a kick of nostalgia. An animation flex in the first episode, what caught my attention was how detailed the fight was, it even included the UI and how the mobile suit was piloted. Don't forget about the superb soundtrack of Hiroyuki Sawano, the OP and ED as well as the Unicorn theme was chef's kiss 😘👌
