Matsuo no Anime
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Matsuo, a clever and quick-witted fox, runs a café. That's basically the setup for Matsuo no Anime, and honestly, it works way better than it has any right to. Matsuo is a sharp-tongued fox trying to keep his small café afloat in a city where anthropomorphic animals and humans coexist, and most of his problems come from the parade of weird customers and rival shop owners who won't leave him alone. The comedy is mostly situational — think a raccoon who orders the same thing every day but complains differently each time, or a delivery bird who keeps crashing into the front window. It's that kind of show. The animation has this cool hybrid look, mixing traditional hand-drawn elements with digital work, which gives everything a slightly off-kilter charm that fits the humor. There's also a surprisingly catchy soundtrack running through it that elevates scenes you wouldn't expect to care about. If you liked Aggretsuko's slice-of-life workplace comedy but want something a little more laid-back, or if Beastars made you curious about anthropomorphic anime but you'd rather skip the existential dread, this is a solid pick. It's a short ONA series from 2019 with a cozy, low-stakes vibe — the kind of thing you throw on when you want something funny and easy without committing to 24 episodes. Nothing groundbreaking, but genuinely charming in its own quiet way.
