The animation on her expressions when the customer arrived was surprisingly good and it made the whole awkward encounter feel way more real

You can tell she is already lost because her foresight never fails and she looks so stressed trying to make those ends meet

I actually felt bad for her when she realized the guy from her vision was actually standing right in front of her shop

That part where she was worrying about money right before the exact guy from her premonition walks in is a great setup

I think her design is so cute and that vision she had about the guy is going to make everything so awkward when they finally talk
kyogre_307's avatar

The voice acting for the witch really sold the whole bit where she was panicking internally while trying to keep her cool during the fortune telling

Most of these things have zero plot but the whole idea of a psychic seeing her own future with a customer is actually a fun hook and seeing her get flustered every time she looked at him made the episode feel more like a real story than just a random scene which is why the ending felt like it actually meant something

I almost choked on my drink when the guy from her vision actually walked into the shop and she just froze up completely

Watching her struggle with the knowledge of what happens later is the best part, especially when she realizes she cannot change fate no matter how hard she tries
gojo_gaze's avatar

The animation during the actual climax scenes was way better than what you usually get from these kinds of releases and the character expressions stayed consistent the whole time
artemis's avatar

I kept cracking up watching her try to act professional even though she already knew exactly how the day was going to end after that opening scene

Seeing that specific doujin art style actually get animated looks pretty decent and the way they handled the colors for the magic scenes was a nice touch
sailor_neptune's avatar

That witch design is top tier and her reactions to the visions made the whole episode really stand out
violet_evergarden_168's avatar

It was so funny seeing the fortuneteller try to avoid her own vision and then having him actually show up made me laugh out loud

You can really tell she is terrified of her own powers after seeing what that guy was going to do, and the awkwardness when he walks in the door is perfect

It is so rare to see an anime handle death without a bunch of screaming and the quietness of Asa just existing in that big empty house really stood out
dankan_dancer_475's avatar
dankan_dancer_475
That scene at the funeral where the adults are just gossiping while Asa stares at the floor was so uncomfortable to watch and Makio acting like a total weirdo to rescue her changed everything
cassidy's avatar

Seeing Makio snap at her sisters funeral because everyone was treating Asa like an object really got to me, and that Kensuke Ushio score during the car ride made the grief feel so heavy
yumichika_peacock_469's avatar
yumichika_peacock_469
Makio being so blunt about not promising to love Asa was actually the most decent thing anyone said to that poor kid all day and it made the whole house offer feel way more sincere
angelegf's avatar

I really felt for Asa when all those relatives were just talking over her at the funeral and nobody noticed she was literally starving until Makio stepped in

EPISODE CONTEXT

With only two episodes total, this opener carries significant structural weight — it must establish the world, the characters, and the central relationship in a single installment. There is no prior episode to build on, making this a cold entry point into the series. Episode 2 serves as the direct continuation and conclusion, meaning everything introduced here feeds directly into the finale with no buffer.
