Kujibiki Unbalance
Oshimeter
Synopsis
On his very first day at Rikkyoin High School, Chihiro Enomoto is already packed — he cooks, cleans, does all the housework for his sister, and falls head over heels for a girl he meets in the library — a second-year with an inexplicable obsession with mushrooms. That's already a lot for one afternoon. Then he finds out his childhood friend Ritsuko is the Student Council President, and that his new school decides future council positions through a lottery system called 'kujibiki,' which randomly throws students together to compete in a series of challenges. Chihiro's group ends up being a quiet girl managing her younger siblings at home and another who may or may not have yakuza ties. The tasks range from cooking contests to endurance tests, and the whole thing has a warm, low-stakes energy that makes it easy to just settle into. Here's a fun wrinkle — this OVA actually exists inside the world of Genshiken, as the fictional anime the characters watch in that show. So if you've seen Genshiken, watching this adds a whole extra layer that's genuinely charming. If you haven't, it still holds up as a breezy three-episode school comedy with some romance and a cast of characters who play off each other well. If you liked School Rumble or Ouran High School Host Club, the tone here is in that same neighborhood — light, a little chaotic, and grounded by characters you want to spend time with.
