Kiss Him, Not Me!

A chubby, cheerful high schooler named Kae Serinuma spends most of her time shipping her male classmates together in elaborate BL fantasies. She's not interested in dating any of them — she'd rather watch them date each other. Then her favorite anime character dies, she locks herself in her room for a week without eating, and comes out the other side suddenly thin and conventionally attractive. Now four guys and one girl at school are competing for her attention, and Kae couldn't care less because she'd honestly prefer they all just made out with each other instead. That's the core comedy of Kiss Him, Not Me — a reverse harem where the protagonist actively does not want the harem. She's a fujoshi first and a love interest second, and the show mines that tension for everything it's worth across 12 episodes. Brain's Base keeps the pacing snappy and the character dynamics entertaining, with each suitor getting enough personality to feel like more than a cardboard cutout. The romance is there, but it never overshadows Kae's identity as an unrepentant otaku, which is refreshing. If you enjoyed the otaku humor in Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii or the way Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun plays with shoujo tropes while refusing to play them straight, this fits right in that lane. It's warm, it's funny, and it treats its nerdy protagonist with genuine affection rather than making her the butt of the joke.
