This is some absolute peak top-level animation from the studio. The battle is just a continuous rush of adrenaline paired with breathless pacing and a chaotic tone that provided some unforgettable character development for Tonbokiri.

Episode Context

Episode 5 marks a sharp escalation in intensity as Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu shifts into a more urgent gear approaching the season's midpoint. The Second Unit faces their most dangerous opposition yet, and the stakes feel genuinely elevated compared to the earlier character-establishment episodes. A new addition to the cast, Tsurumaru Kuninaga, brings fresh energy and personality to the group dynamic right when the pressure mounts highest. Expect ufotable's signature fluid battle animation to be on full display here, the action sequences are aggressive and visually dense. The pacing runs hot throughout, leaving little room to breathe between confrontations and strategic pivots. Tonally, this is where the series commits to its darker, war-driven atmosphere. Character-driven beats are woven between the combat, but tension dominates the episode's identity from start to finish.
